Luthers flying with me!

I am so happy, we just booked our tickets back and Luther gets to fly with me! But I am sort of worried bc, he gets to fly across the atlantic to Philly with me (and so does Dale) but then he has to go under  for the rest of the trip I think it is only a one or two hour trip, but I got him a duffle bag carrier so that he could fit under the seat instead of a hard one and if he has to go under maybe he will scratch at it or something, I am hoping they look at him and see how sweet he is and say it is ok if he flies with us to Roanoke. But what does everybody think I should do, Dale has a hard normal cat carrier, it is extra long. So Dale gets to fly with us the whole time She travels in that bc I worry about her scratch and clawing and she could get out of the duffle bag type (I worry). Luther can fit in it, but only to sit or lay down, not really to stand up. I was thinking should I switch them for the last part of the trip? or just hope this bag is heavy duty enough? or that they let him stay with me? Or scratch the whole duffle bag idea, get the hard one and put him under?

How about getting a hard one in additon to the duffle. Check it as baggage on the first flight and if they make you put him under the plane on the second flight then you can use it to put him in. I guess you would have to make arrangements with the airline to have the hard carrier available. I don't know if this would work, but it's an idea...

You're going to Roanoke? Do you live there?

I'd switch them if you have to put one under. Two hours of laying and sitting isn't too bad rather than what COULD happen in a soft carrier down in cargo...

I agree with Jiimiya, and Sarah. I dont think the airlines would even let you put an animal in a duffle in the compartment. it is not safe at all. get a small hard carrier and check just in case you need it for your 2nd leg and I would get somehting like this serenum to calm them during the flight

I don't think she wanted to use the duffle bag for the compartment.

If I get the hard one as checked baggage, then I have to pay$100, so I already have to pay $110 to have him fly, then another extra for an extra hard one! For all that effort I would just have him in the hard one the whole time. The reason for the soft one is bc his legs are so long if I got one that he could fit in (stand up turn around) he wouldn'T be able to ride with me bc he is so tall and skinny and the only seem to make short fat little dog kennels (no offense to short fat little dogs), but with the soft one it can change shape (and I think it would be easier to sneak him out!) so that he can stand up and move around.
But now I don'T know what to do, because Hubby just got off the phone with the airline and they said they don't think there is enough time to have him checked at was, so he has to fly under the whole time! So I caled the people to ask what to do about the kennel , bc his kennel is wire and the website says no wire ones, she said I would have plenty of time to check him. So I think I might just chek the cat at Was and then I don't have to worry about his kennel! That might be simpler?
But no I don't live in Roanoke, I (did/will)live sort of near by in Blacksburg

Don't you just wish it was Star Trek and you could just beam on over?

I know for a fact that you can not have a duffle carrier in cargo. You must have a hard one. If they let him fly as baggage on the plane over here, they should let him stay as carryon.

Sheesh. What a world. "Baggage" and "carry on"......he's a DOG. I think planes should have a pet section, where they can fasten crates securely. Errrr, and maybe a soundproof box around them. :)

    I know....

I use the Delta Airlines Pet First program. They ahve their own special little section in the cargo area. If the flight is over 2 hours long. They water and feed them. If its a 8 hr flight. Depending on your instructions and size of the dog. They will take them out to allow them potty breaks! They have a trained "keeper" on board with them at ALL times.
