Maggie has been limping now a little over 2 wks. I kept hoping it would go away but I guess it isn't so I am going to make an appt. with the vet Monday.

She is limping on the front legs. I've checked her pads - nothing. It doesn't seem to cause her any pain so that is why I haven't brought her in sooner. but now that she is still limping I feel really bad. She still runs, jumps, plays more than ever - a lot more than you would expect if a dog was in pain. She doesn't hold that leg up or anything, just a little limp when she walks. And I haven't noticed her licking it or anything.

She is about 7 mos now. She is a St. Bernard so she has been on adult food since I got her (Calif Natural - the same kind I give Indy). I have been giving her salmon oil too (just b/c I give it to Indy) which I am going to quit.

Any ideas as to what this may be? I've looked into Pano, HOD and OCD, and if the stuff I've read is correct, those are all relatively curable - correct? I'm figuring since it has gone on so long it is definately her bones/joints. So I guess the vet is going to want to do an X-ray.

Which sort of goes on to my second question - Maggie needs to get spayed. And I figure if they are going to have to sedate her to do an X-ray, they could go ahead and spay her? Is this a good idea or should I wait? I just want to save her the experience and me the $$.

OK...I was looking at Maggie's feet again and I think I may know what is wrong. It appears as though her pinky toenail on her front foot is broken. The top pointy part is going sideways. I tried to touch it and she didn't seem to like that. Hopefully that is all it is. That could explain why it is not painful all the time, if it is just her toenail. I'll let the vet figure out what to do with it, if that is the only cause.

Oh I hope that's it! It's always so scary when our furkids are hurting and can't tell us why.

poor maggie, Wylie has injured her toenails several times and they are very painful, the vet has wrapped them in the past and cut the nail to help heal. As for xrays, I would have the vet do xrays while she is out for her spay to make sure her hips are okay if st benards are prone to it. I remember when we got jake neutuered, they did this, because being a pure bred lab, they are known for hip displacia. I didn know they could tell when they are pups but I guess they can

I took her to the vet yesterday. The vet thinks it is pano b/c she is also running a little fever. She couldn't really tell which leg it was either. She pinched her toenail and that didn't seem to bother her. ???

Anyways...she gave me some Rimadyl to give her for a little while. I made an appt on the 16th to take her in to get her spayed and if she is still limping then they are going to do x-rays.
