    Hi

I adopted bert (orange tabby) in October of 2003. At the time he was 3 months old. He is such a great cat and I love him. We have that connection, and I know he enjoys living with us. BUT...this past August we adopted a rescue puppy, then in september a new roommate moved in AND I took in a kitten off the street. As you can assume, Bert started marking. He will only mark in bed rooms. The living room, kitchen, and bathroom are always untouched maybe because he spends the most time in there?
So this has been going on for 3 months and counting now. We've tried confining him from the bedrooms, and of course that will work unless he sneaks in to a room. We have tried Feliway spray, and I thought that was working, so we let him out of confinement, and he peed on our futon.

In summary, can anyone offer me anymore advice? Is this something he will adjust too and stop after a while? It's already been a few months. We've put him back in confinement from the bed rooms, but frankly after the futon incident, but boyfriend got so mad he said he wanted to get rid of Bert. He didn't really mean it because he loves him, but I don't want this to come between us, and I really need Bert to stop marking. Please, any advice I would really appreciate.

    Thanks
    Crystal

you would need a Feliway diffuser for every room he frequents

Is he fixed? If not, that would be a good place to start.
Feliway only works within a certain square footage, so I agree with Mary, you may have to get one for every room.

I know there are tons of articles online that can help. If you do a search, you may be able to find some useful information.

    Good luck!

He is fixed, I have been using the spray, and spraying it in each room every day for the past month. he's UTI negative. I really think this is a jealousy issue with the new pets. Is there anything I can do other than more feliway and attention?

    Thanks!

You can try to leave food or treats on the places where he sprayes. Cats don't like to urinate/spray where they eat.
    Good luck! :y_the_best:

you could also add Bach's Rescue Remedy to his drinking water. It helps to relax. This might work. Not all animals respond to its effects. It's done wonders for my foster kitty, Cleo...she still thinks I'm goatlicking scum but she now responds favorably to my hubby (hate it when they do that)

It sounds like he wants to be the alpha pet. Be sure that whenever you walk in always go to him first to pet and praise. Same with giving treats too...always give him treats first and spend time with him before you pay attention to the others.

It seems kinda unfair, as a meowmy I want to show both my babies equal love and attention but they don't work that way.
