I had to board Avary for the weekend while I went away. God, I hate doing that, but I had no choice. Anyways, I had my mother call there and check on her a couple times over the weekend and they said she was doing great. Well, when I go pick her up yesterday they pull out her folder and on it in HUGE letters it says "CAUTION...MAY BITE". I asked why it said that and the lady goes "well..you know those dogs are unpredictable.." This isnt some little run of the mill boarding place, this is my Veterinary Hospital. It really annoyed me. Then they bring my little girl out and she is so excited to see me. She comes over and her eyes are completely bloodshot red. They said its cause she was pulling hard, but she pulls sometimes with me and her eyes are NEVER like that. I am a bit worried.

What!! what do you mean her eyes were red from pulling? I would talk to the manager to see what wnet on, about that and the note biting note. and find another boarding place. Smothing just doenst sound right, I would be worried too.

I would also tell the manager that you are finding a new vet hospital for her if they can't give you some meaningfull information about her little eyes and the note... I mean for pete's sake... that is NOT right...sounds off to me...no doubt about it... How's her temp otherwise?

I would be very concerned. I do know that their eyes can become bloodshot from excessive hard pulling. Annie, used to do that sometimes until we switched to the training collar, but never for extended periods of time, like less than 5 minutes they would remain red, which still worried me terribly. But the caution note would really bother me. I'm afraid to board Annie anywhere except my boarding kennel because of the bias against her breed. The girl who works there has a pit and Annie is her favorite boarder...so yes..I would certainly look around for somewhere else.

i know i would have a problem if someone put a note like that on my dog and gave me that dumb a** explaination.. and her eyes got bloodshot juws from pullin from the kennel to where you were at... you may need to talk to someone.. have your dog checked out if you have more concerns

that must suck that your vet does not trust your dog enough to not put ridiclous notes like that on her folder. at first my vets were very cautious about kuma, but now they all know and love her. they even commented that she was the best behaved dog in at the time she was spayed. if i ever caught them writing such things like 'may bite' id be having words with them.

well, it wasnt Avary's actual doctor it was the people who work in the boarding part. Some of them arent even Vet Techs. Anyways, I went over my parents house last nigth and they are really angry about the whole situation so my mother is calling the Vet. I will keep you updated....

ok, my mother called and talked to Avary's actual doctor. She said to bring her in for a free exam and then proceeded to tell my mom that Avary was very aggressive during her stay and was not a good girl. she said she was very protective of her cage and would growl.......that worries me. what can i do? Avary is a very good girl, but she is also a bit aggressive if she is locked in the car and a stranger come over, but if i get her out she is ok.

    any suggestions welcomed pleaseeee!

My Honijade is like that...she's a little fearfull and when she was boarded we didn't have one problem... I think you may want to find a facility that handles the dogs less...like one where they have indoor/outdoor runs where they feed the dogs and can do so with the dog outside or throuhg a hole rather than in a vet type place... I'm assuming it's like my vet boarding place where they are in "crate" type things till they are let out for excersize... We had GREAT success with the Boarding place that I went too with indoor outdoor facilities...might want to look into that next time...

Sounds to me that Avary is cage aggressive. At the vet I work at we also run a boarding facility with a groomer. It is not uncommon to have dogs come in that are cage aggressive. We have some dogs that would try and eat you up if you walk past their run, but once you open the door and they see the leash, they are all wags and wiggles. Most dogs revert to this stage when they are in a strange and unfamiliar place, it is very stressful and loud with all the barking. At our vet we don't put those stickers on their files unless they are aggressive right off hand when they walk in the door and try to take out everyone in their path. If they didn't have any other excuse then "you can't trust this breed" I would most definately be finding another vet. NO vet should that ignorant and narrow minded about ANY dog breed.
