Just wondering if anyone has had any success using melafix and pimafix to treat fungus on loaches... any advice on different medications to treat fungus would be helpful too! :D

    Thanks!

Although Melafix claims to treat bacterial & fungal infections, I recall reading a study that showed it didn't - but it's still great for helping wounds heal quickly. Pimafix is fairly new so I haven't heard much about its claimed antifungal & antibacterial properties.

I can tell you that I had a goldfish with a broken tail (big cut with exposed bone). I considered doing surgery to remove that part of the tail because it was flopping around and I didn't think it would heal right. But I decided to give the Pimafix & Melafix a try and within 4 days it was completely healed and looked like nothing had ever happened.

I am a firm believer of both of those as a healing aid, but I'm still not convinced of it's other claims.

Is Pimafix made by the same company as Melafix? If so does it work on velvet?

i have used melafix, to treat an open wound on a whether loach, he was sliced in nearly two halfs after he got himself stuck in a manmade tree orniment.

He died, but it helped an open wound on my guarami, but he got out in to the normal tank and got attacked and died.

Not too lucky. it did start to heal him tho..

Melafix is a product derived from tea tree oil. Also known a melaluca oil, it has many properties that heal an disenfect. Tea tree oil is put into handsoaps, toothpastes, detergents and shampoos. It is very safe and benificial. I wouldn't be suprised if it helped with fungus and healing open wounds. Although I think the bottle just says it heals wounds.

to ceveretts: yep, they're made by the same company, and claim it works on all bacterial and fungal infections..

I bought the Melafix to help heal up a battered guppy, then I bought a couple of new kuhli loaches and they both have fungus pretty bad... i read on the melafix bottle "when used in combination with pimafix, melafix provides a more effective treatment against fish disease.." so I'm giving it a try. the pimafix bottle claims to work wonders, we'll see what happens.

i can tell you one thing, pimafix smells disgusting. Melafix has that yummy tea tree oil smell, pimafix has made my whole room smell like cloves and sweet pickles... may not sound that bad, but it IS! lol.

LOL. That's exactly what came to mind when I first smelled the Pimafix. I'm not too fond of the Melafix (smells like Vicks VapoRub) but it's a lot better than Pimafix.

A little hint on the Melafix: There's also a pond version available. The stuff I have is 5x more concentrated than aquarium Melafix but costs the same as the same volume of aquarium Melafix. Meaning you pay the same amout but it treats 5x more.

I agree that Melafix is awesome! I try that before anything really. Awesome tip on the pond variety for a much better price by the sounds of it, thanks Chelle! :y_the_best: The Pimafix is one I had not yet heard of or seen. I think I will be trying it if I need in the future. Hopefully none of us do though! We wish!!! L.O.L. The joys of fishkeeping! Thanks everyone!
