Melanochromis auratus cichlids help

    i got a pair of Melanochromis auratus in my 30 gallon tank i noe that females have half their body yellow but i dont noe about the other one he is jsut white with the stipes so is that male or what and the females chases it around

    Also, you may end up with problems keeping them in a 30 gallon. Auratus are highly aggressive (one of the most aggressive mbuna). It's best to keep at least 3 or 4 females/male and really a 30 gallon doesn't provide a very large footprint for territories.

    Ah! The 1st one is a M. auratus. The 2nd one, however looks more like a M. parallelus. It definitely isn't a M. auratus, though.

    Probably, but it's not really advisable to do so (unless you plan on keeping all the fry).

    Also, I believe they're both female (although I could be wrong since they're still fairly small and I'm not overly familiar with M. parallus). And I hope you plan on movig them to a different tank some time soon. Otherwise the other fish in that tank have a really good chance of being killed.
