    Hello y'all!

I have a young oscar (3in) and he (we'll call it a 'he') is becoming increasingly unamused with his diet. At present his diet consists of pellets and a little bloodworm, but to be homest he doesn't really seem impressed by either food. Can anybody suggest some interesting additions to his staple diet?
I know that Oscars are 'food-monsters' and will pretty much eat anything, but I would like to hear from anyone who has kept oscars and can tell me what their 'Food-monster' enjoyed.

    Regards from the top-shelf

First of all, do not feed him feeder fish. They provide very little nutritional value, can make him more aggressive, make the tank dirty, and can cause an intestinal blokage.

Some good treats are earthworms, crickets, meal worms, shrimp and pretty much any other insect. Just avoid any that are poisonous (ie spiders) or could have come in contact with pesticides.

Nope, don't feed fish meat (ie beef, chicken, & pork). It contains a lot of fat and fish don't have a high enough body temp to digest it properly. The only exception is beefheart since it contains very little fat.

Okay. Yes fish meat (w/o scales) is okay for a treat. I occasionally give my oscars a little tuna (packaged in spring water, not oil) and they love it, but it is a bit messy.

My oscar is also 3" long. I have tryed different things to feed it. I found it likes frozen brine shrimp the best. it comes in cubes just the right size for it. it also likes the tetracolor tropical flakes. it is good nutrition for the fish and enhances the color of the fish. I alternate when feeding.
