Hello everyone. I got Sydney microchipped today while we were filling her medicene prescriptions. All my girls are microchipped now thankgod. When I got Syd back they gave me a microchip tag. I put it on her but it makes her jingle even more since she has her ID tag and license on too. How important is it to have the microchip tag on. Would it not be a good idea to take it off? Just curious, thanks :)

I have my dog's microchip tags on their collars along with their I.D. and rabies tags. Just in case they should become lost, I want shelters to know that they have been chipped. I'm just paranoid that they don't take the time to check all dogs. Also, I have Pit Bulls, so I think that some might just not care to check, if you know what I mean.

The microchip tag is made of a hard rubber, so I don't have to worry about any more "jingle". I'd say, keep the tag on. It's just a little more protection.

I've seen little plastic covers that slip over tags to prevent the jingling....maybe you could get one of those for the tag?

hmmmm... I've never seen those covers, nern! Sounds awesome tho.... where do you find them?

I don't have the microchip tag on Bailey.... but honestly, I probably should. He's just a small dog and three tags is about three tags too many to him! LOL.... a friend suggested I just put all three's info on ONE tag. You can by those front/back ones and have them engrave the name/phone number, along w/license info, rabies info and microchip info too. I just haven't done it yet..... what am I waitin on anyways

You can get tag covers, or you can get one of those little pockets that you attach to the collar and put all the tags inside. No more jingling!

I need to do that. My dogs don't wear collars anymore unless we are taking them outside, and we only have their ID tag on their collars even then. Nala is chipped, but Bonnie isn't. That will be remedied on Oct. 3 when the shelter has their fundraiser where they will be chipping dogs for $15. :)

I personally would not not put the tag on mine!! I"m with you, I have the uncertanty that the shelters don't check for microchips, along with the vets in our area. All my puppies were microchipped and sent a tag ont their collars. Not only that, if I'm to start breeding again, I will be tatooing my dogs and puppies. I think then there is no way someone can't know its my dog!!!!

The tattooing is quite inexpensive, very little pain, if any and HIGHLY effective!!!!

The dogs and puppies are put under mild anesthetic and on the inside of their thigh the name address and phone # of owner and vet is applied, along with a dog ID #. Small enough not to be "obscene" or Ugly, but can be easily read if the dog was found. All one would have to do is rub its belly and find it!!!!
