hi- well my Brock is still vomiting- if you read my last post he was vomiting all of his food for 3 days- so i took him to the vet twice- they ran the test where they make him swallow (poor thing) dye and they xray- everything ran thru him fine- his blood test they said came back all fine-unfortunately he developed bad diarreha
during his 4 day stay-his temp was about 103. and he was slightly dehydrated- but they released him saying that maybe it was some gastro virus??? well its been 5 days since hes been home and hes been hurting (his butt hole was extremely irritated) but today he seems better, wagging his tail and finally running outside with the other dogs (who by the way are not sick)- but he did vomit all his food last night- i just dont understand.
he still has an appetite and is drinkgin water- but why is he still vomiting!!
im am wondering why the vets couldt find anything- any ideas on what could be making him sick- ive been feeding him purina one for about 3 months now- so i dont think its his food-
    any help would be appreciated-

Do you have the blood test results? If so, can you tell us which tests they ran? A "blood test" can be just about anything, although surely they ran a rather complete panel since they didn't know what was wrong.

Hopefully one of the vet techs can chime in with something more useful. Barring that, maybe a second opinion at another vet?

The barium would show if theres a blockage anywhere, including a partial blockage if everything was done right.

I couldnt find your other post and dont recall how old your dog is, as Jamiya said, you may want to see another vet for a second opinion.

I did want to mention a couple of things though, more just general. Is he on anti-biotics and anti-emetics?? Some anti-biotics can cause vomiting, if he is then this should be discussed with the vet as there are usually alternative options for most anti-biotics.

Another thing, Im assuming its now been over a week since Brock has eaten anything (thats stayed down), he has an appetite but how much are you giving him to eat and drink at one time? If they havent eaten for a few days and he is hungry you really need to give very small amounts of food over the first 24-48 hours and small amounts of water at regular intervals, if you put a bowl full of each down he will probably inhale it and that will make him vomit again.
When I say small amounts, start with a teaspoon full, if he keeps it down for 20 minutes give him another teaspoon full, wait another 20 minutes, if thats staying down then give him a little more......and continue gradually increasing the amount hes getting (food and water/Pedialyte)
Also the food, I hate to suddenly switch food on dogs as that in itself can cause diarrhea however you might need to give him a bland diet for a couple of days, something like boiled white rice and chicken (no skin or fat).

Dont know if that helps at all.

Forgot to mention, is his temp is high....might be hard for you to take his temp with a rectal thermometer though if he is so sore. You could put some 'baby' vaseline on his rear if hes very sore there, just a little.

Can you use one of those ear thermometers on dogs, DeLaUK?

Unless theyve changed them slightly they werent always accurate, dogs have long ear canals. They do work well on cats though, ear canals are not as long.

That was what I was told anyway by quite a few vets. To be honest, in general, with most dogs its easier to get to their rear than mess around with their ears.
