that first part is really interesting, the way dogs interact with each other. ive always wondered why some dogs REALLY hate kuma. she is quite rough when she plays with her friends so perhaps there is some domination to it. word gets around amongst the dogs that shes the dominant bullying type and there ya go, instant enemies lol.

Weird... My puppy is in with an Adult Bitch Boerboel and An Adult dog..Boerboel... He flips the bitch on her back periodically when he's frustrated and barking at passersby and when she barks in his face... literally...he flipps her over (seems forcibly) and she vocalizes to high heaven... Sooo...who eats first when I feed??? GUESS...

Puppy, she's over 4 months of age... She eats first, male eats second and the Bitch that gets rolled eats third... Puppy gets done...she goes to Bitches bowl and bitch moves over for her... BUT in the dog house...when they line up who sleeps where... Bitch beats the heck out of puppy... Who's dominant??? The male...but then who's next??? I say puppy is destined to be Alpha Female and Bitch knows it and is trying already for forceably take rank from puppy... I'm alpha over all because I feed, water etc... They only get to do what they do when I tell them they can... Anyway... VERY interresting...

    This part is so true:

Nala is very focused on her own pleasure and is a very pushy dog. She rushes out the door first, she wants every toy to be hers, and she will steal Bonnie's food if Bonnie gives her a chance. So she seems to be "dominant." But I always have the feeling that Bonnie really doesn't care about those things, so she lets Nala do them not because Nala is "alpha" but because Bonnie simply does not care about those things. Bonnie is a very tolerant dog, but if there's something she really wants she won't back down (like when Nala tried to take her stuffed Kong) and if another dog is annoying her too much, she will snap to make it stop. But she tries to avoid the dog before she gets to that point.

I do think the key is CONTROL of resources, not witholding them. And I like the concept of using the clicker to change what the dog perceives as pleasurable. All of our "problems" with Nala are because she derives great internal pleasure from the behaviors that she is doing and nothing we can offer in exchange (and no humane deterrent we could devise) matters as much to her as the intrinsic value of doing what she is doing (like chasing the cats).
