Moe has something in her eye

Moe has what looks like a piece of hair in her eye. At first I thought there was something seriously wrong with her because of the way it was in the middle of her eyeball and it was all bubbly. It looked like her eye had been scratched and (this is gross) a flap of cornea was hanging loose. Of course I called the vet right away and made an appointment for an hour later.

Well, after I ate my lunch I went back and looked at her and her eye now seems fine. What I thought was a scratch and flap of cornea are just hair and gunk. It has moved to the corner of her eye too. She is not bothered by it at all, so I canceled the appointment.

Now I'm wondering if I can take out the stuff by myself without causing her any problems. It's not right at the corner so when I go at her with a damp cloth she just closes her eyes so I can't do anything. Or should I just leave it and let it work itself out since it's definitely not bothering her?

Like contact lens solution or distilled water or something?

If it's not bothering her, I'd leave it alone. It'll work itself out eventually. If you try using water on her, she might get surprised and scratch you. I wouldn't risk it under your delicate condition  unless Kendrick is by your side to assist.

Who you calling "delicate"? :p Moe would never scratch me anyway. She's actually very docile with me.

I managed to attack Moe with a warm, wet cloth as soon as I got home from work tonight. The thing was in the middle of her eye again. I got it on on the second try! It was actually a human hair (fairly long and all coiled up). She got lots of treats for her patience and I feel better knowing that it was really nothing all along! I was really worried that she had been scratched or something.

Good job Halaroo! I'm always overly cautious whenever I have to wipe their eyes or trim their nails. Rene once swiped me out of the blue because she was jealous of my firstborn. I still have the nasty scars.

Poor Moe...but a happy ending. I'm so glad Moe is fine. Sounds like you've been through an ordeal.

Good to hear Moe is ok!!!!

Kitty got something in her eye a few weeks back. :( She came in after being outside for a few hours and she was keeping her eye shut. She wouldn’t let me take a look … She was really keeping the lids closed. So I ended up getting a straw and using it like a dropper. Dropped a few drops of water on the eye and an hour later it was as good as new. Just needed some flushing out. Did she have me worried!! I nearly called the vet, but it was a Saturday evening and the vet was closed. I was hesitant at first, but figured water was ok. She was surprisingly good when the drops of water went in her eye. Not a movement from her. My good little girl! :kiss_heart:
