My angry, nervous cat

I have a male cat who is about a year and a half old. He is very skittish and runs under the bed to hide early in the morning. We see him when he comes out of hiding at night.

He gets very angry and tries to bite me when I pet him near his tail. I'm not sure if it's a nervous thing or what. He doesn't mind being petted anywhere else, just that one spot really irritates him.

Does anyone else have a cat with this problem?

That's a very sensitive spot for some cats. I know my cat personally loves it. But your baby could be over sensitive there and just really not like it. I would mention this to the vet just to discount any possible medical causes. Has he always been like this?

    I agree with Cassie.
Most of my cats love being pet in this spot but some of them get irritated if I do it for too long.

a cat i had before hated being touched near the tail. and Max doesnt like being petted that much, he prefers to have his neck scratched. but he wouldnt turn around and bite, he would just get up and walk away. how long have you had him? and has he always been skittish?

I assumed Ang@sandsteas ment he would turn and nip, not really bite. I know when I stimulate Booger in that spot too much she will swing her head around and nip at the spot. I figure that I just over stimulated her in that area. But she doesn't get aggressive toward me if I stop.

But if Ang@sandsteas's cat is super sensitive in that area, I can see agressive behavour being the result.
