My betta acted strange

Well I put a female betta into sunrise's (Male betta) tank. Everything looked ok sunrise was spreding out his fins and circling her and she was checking his bubble nest but, a few minutes later sunrise looked like he was pursuing the female and trying to bite her, so I took her out of the tank. She didn't get bit or anything but, is this natural?

 

He was trying to mate with her. Nipping and chasing is normal, as long as they aren't aren't fighting too harshly and he's not (literally) bothering her to death. Here's something I got from a website...

"When they are ready, he will entice her to the nest, and she will eventually follow. The mating process can take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 or 5 hours. He will "embrace" her, squeeze the eggs out, and the eggs will fall to the floor of the tank. She will look like he has killed her, being very still and motionless for a few seconds, like in a trance. He will catch or pick up the eggs from the floor of the tank and "blow" into the bubble nest."

Well I tried it with a different female and of course his chasing her, and now she's hiding under a plant. (Its plastic) I put her in at 1:00 and right now its 6:32. How long is the chasing suppost to last?
