My cat Bud is male and is 32 in human years. He has a happy home in the English countryside.

I leave my kitchen window open all the time so he can come and go when he likes and allways comes home every day for food and to relax.

On September 10th 2006 he was last seen having dinner but i have not seen him since. its now 4 days he has been missing. He has done this before and returned after 5 days and looked like he had a very nasty fight with a dog or hit by a car i took him to the vets and he fully recovered.

But now he is missing again...so how far do male cats actually go? miles? not that far? also do male cats have a habbit of going off for long periods at a time?

does anyone have any tips in finding my cat apart from asking neighbours and adverts i have tried looking and calling him but no luck.

    Toby in Essex UK

When I was a kid, we had a male cat that would go away for several days and come back. One time he went away and never came back.

I sure hope you kitty comes back home. If he does, you might want to consider keeping him as an indoor cat where he can be safe and happy without injury or something worse.

I have two female kitties now that I did let out. One of them had has some bad times - had gotten very ill, gotten in a cat fight, gotten worms, fleas, etc. So now they are indoor kitties. (My other kitty is very shy and never left the yard).

    Best of luck.

Hi and welcome to Auspet. I hope your cat comes home safely. I think each cat is different. Some male cats may leave for a day others weeks.

is he neutered? If not you could get him neutered to possibly help keep him around.
Best way to keep him around is to keep him inside.
I know in the UK having cats that are in/out is quite common, whereas in the states a lot of us prefer to keep them inside - safe from disease, injury, predators and sick SOBs that enjoy hurting animals, and cars.
I always found it amazing that in Europe declawing is illegal  :y_the_best: but letting cats outside to roam about is quite commonplace. Here declawing is still an acceptable practice, even for the most self-professed cat lovers, yet we will keep the safe and sound inside.
    Anyway - I digress.
I have lost a cat like this and I never want to go through it again. It's very upsetting when they never come home and you are always guessing as to their fate.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat being missing :( I Hope he'll come home soon, and without any injuries (sp?). If you have the space to do it, you might want to concider building him an outside cat-yard. That way he can be outside but still safe. Good luck finding him!
