My cat Magnus displays weird behavior!

    hello,

This is my first post here and here it goes:

My cat (Magnus) has a number of strange behaviors. I wanted to know if anyone can tell me why he does these things.

    For examples, he:

...kneeds, purrs, and sucks on my girlfriends hair! He does the same thing for anybody with long hair - including a shag rug in the living room. It is a small area rug with 2" shag. He burys his head into it and suckles, kneeds and purrs. We have been calling it "making cookies." :)

...thinks that the shower is "attacking" me. When I close the shower door he jumps onto the bathroom counter and paws at the opaque shower walls, occasionaly meowing. I'll paw back at him and he'll rub his head on the wall and meow. When I get out of the shower he meows like he is scared and tries to reach out to me from the counter - it is funny to see! He does this for every shower I take! For some reason he is fascinated by the toilet flushing too. He just stares into the bowl as the water swirls down the drain. I wonder if it is a water phobia?

...brushes his teeth!!! We are thinking of sending in this to America's Funniest Home Videos. Magnus stands up on his back legs, props himself up using his front paws onto a toothbrush that I hold for him, and gnashes his teeth while rubbing his head on the bristles. HA HA ! so funny to watch. It looks like he is brushing his teeth!

...sleeps leaning on the bedroom door when we kick him out at night.

...eats as fast as he possibly can, sometimes getting sick in the process. Our other cats don't do that!

...lies in-between my arms while I am typing on this keyboard :)

...only likes to be pet directly under his chin, and that spot right in between his eyes on his fuzzy nose. If I pet him any where else he gets annoyed.

...he eats all the house plants. but he has slowly stopped doing this because I yell at him when he does.

Any thoughts? I have had cats my whole life and he is the weirdest one ever!

Hi and welcome to the forum! What you've described is pretty normal behavior.

The kneeding/purring and sukling is a throw back to when he was nursing off his mommy. This is perfectly normal kitty comforting behavior and is pretty common. It's akin to a toddler su cking their thumb. A lot of people complain about drooling too heheh. Someone here recently referred to the kneeding motion as 'making bread'. LOL I have a large stuffed animal that my baby kneeds on. It's the only thing she does it on. I gave it to her because she just loves/comforts on it so much.

Can you possibly leave the shower door cracked open for him? It sounds more like he has a healthy curiosity for water and doesn't like being seperated from you. If you would open the door a bit he would most likely perch himself on the side of the tub and watch you shower. Some kitties even hop down into the shower! That's also why he's so interested in the flushing toilet.

Brushing his teeth...heh, you got me on that one but I'm suspecting he's just teething. Kitties enjoy chewing, especially on bristly stuff like brushes. I can't brush my baby to save my life, she just wants to chew on it.

Sleeps leaning on the bedroom door...he misses you. Many kitties feel safe sleeping with their mommy's and daddys. When I lock mine out, she sits outside my door pawing and crying.

eats as fast as he possibly can, sometimes getting sick in the process... This kind of eating behavior usually occurs in animals that have been living on their own outside and vieing with other animals for any possible meal they can get. Was Magnus a stray that you took in?

lies in-between your arms while you are typing...he's wanting attention! All of it LOL

All cats like different kinds of petting. Just like people, they're individuals.

I'm glad to hear that he's breaking out of the eating houseplants. Many common houseplants are actually deadly to kitties.

Sounds to me like you have a perfectly normal fuzzball on your hands and we all want to see some pics!!!! :D

Welcome to the cat forum! :D

My cat is obsessed with water! He won't drink from his water bowl anymore, he only accepts running water from the faucet. The teeth brushing sounds hillarious! Do you think he might be loosing his baby teeth? Over the last week or two, my kitty has started to rub his gums (and teeth) against my fingers when we cuddle. I've also noticed that he rubs against table corners etc. like if hes scratching.

    Pictures of Magnus please :m7:

When I read the title of your post "my cat magnus displays weird behavior"...I thought to myselt, isn't weird behavior synonymous with "CAT".

Sounds like Magnus is a very normal cat...whatever that means.

My kitty Hunter kneeds all the time, he will suck on my clothes from time to time and he used to suck my hair. Now he will just eat at it when he wants my attention.

Hunter also gets into the tub while I am showing. He sits on the other side of the curtain, but he's still in the tub.

Cats are strange but give hours and hours of enjoyment and headaches!!!

Cassie has explained everything really well, I have 5 cats and know the behaviour your talking about all too well

Watch out for cats eating house plants though, some are very poisonous, my cat Bones used to eat my peace lily all the time, then I found out it was poisoning him  , probably didn't help his Kidneys (he now has kidney disease) :(

buster likes to take a blanket of cloths(depending on what he can find), takes some in his mouth and then starts needing it with his moter running. if its cloths he them takes it to the laundry room door so it can be cleaned. he also takes my hair in his paw then eats it. i think he enjoys waking me up.
when im in the shower shadow will sit on the window sill and open the cirtin with he paw and stare, she did that to my mom once too. if shadow's laying on you and you want to get up she growls at you, then looks "hurt" at you and moves.
