My First Experience With Volunteering!

I just got a call from a fellow at NOAH, http://www.thenoahcenter.org/index.html our area's no kill animal shelter about an add on their website I responded to a few weeks ago-- they were advertising for someone to help with getting photo's and bio's of their animals posted on PETFINDER, so they could find homes. I was looking for something I could start doing to volunteer and help animals, and when I saw this ad I thought it sounded like the perfect thing for me! I love taking pictures of animals with my digital camera, cropping, editing.. all that jazz. And I've done business on Ebay for some time, so I've gotten a lot of experience with posting ads with photos and descriptions to show off things selling points.... so,I'm excited! They want me to come meet witht the director sometime soon, and get started helping out. I was just telling Samsintentions the other day that I don't feel like I'm doing what I should in my life to help out all of the poor abused and abandoned animals. I like what they do at this facility... what they do is work in conjunction with area animal shelters, and rescue animals from them that are scheduled to be put down. Then they spend tons of time and effort on these animals, getting them into adoptable condition. They do all kinds of work with training the animals, and making them into good companion animals. I'll keep you posted as things progress! :y_the_best:

 Congratulations, Pam!!! I'm sure you will do a good job, and soon enough you're going to be so happy for saving the lives and giving a loving mommy and daddy to so many furry babies!!!

I wish I could do something like this, even foster, but I live in a little dinky town in south Alabama, and all the adotions centers are about 70 miles away.... I don' t know how I would be able to take the babies out to adoption days???

I would love to do more to help as many as I could, but other than adopting them (this is why I have six beautiful, wonderful dogs), I don't have any idea how to help???....

Congrats, Pam! I was going to start doing the same thing (photos and write-ups on petfinder) for the shelter where Nala was adopted. One of the other shelters near here always has really cute and detailed write-ups of their animals on petfinder, whereas Nala's shelter had things like "black dog" which weren't terribly helpful.

But they wanted me to commit to EVERY Saturday for particular hours, and I just can't do that with two kids. There are soccer games and school programs and scout functions and all sorts of irregular activities to plan around. Their loss, I guess. :(

Pam thats great. I wish I had the time to take photos of everyone, and do that. There's a girl who loves my horses and I let her mess with them, she wants to start "volunteering" for me. I think its wonderful. Sure wish I could have had her a LONG time ago!!

It sounds like I can be pretty versatile time wise.... I asked if it something that would all have to be done from their computers, or if I can do some of it and home, and he said that works out fine, to come there and take the photo's and info, and do the posting from a home computer. So, I figure then I can do some of it in the evenings from home. I'm lucky in that Rusty is my only "child"... I don't have any of the 2 legged kind! So I have a bit more time than all of the soccer mom's out there.
Jamiya, do you remember off hand the web address for the shelter you are talking about that has the really good write ups? I'd like to look at it, and get some ideas of how other places do it.
