You'll probably have to physically remove the ticks and I'd do it as soon as possible if he has that many as it'll cause anemia in the dog.

If you are going to keep this dog outside you should purchase a product that will kill ticks on him. If you don't have cats Advantix would be good especially if you have a bad tick problem. It'll not only kill ticks that bite but fleas and mosquitoes also.

Time to get to work...get those tweezers out. (I HATE ticks)

Some heartworm medications also prevent against ticks, I think, so you might look into switching to one if you already give heartworm meds. I don't like using medication or chemicals, but this sounds like an extreme situation.

For a more natural approach, once you have all the ticks off him and clean his house again, you can try using a garlic spray like Mosquito Barrier (http://www.mosquitobarrier.com/) to treat the yard. You can also feed your Shepherd a clove of garlic a day to help him stay free of ticks.

because of your extreme situation, I would get him on a tick preventative asap. Sprays are really only for if you go hiking etc, when the dog is not out very often. No amound of spray and wasing is going to get this under control

I would try a tick collar like preventic or one of the topicalllike frontline which is a flea and tick medicine

Sounds like a science fiction horror movie" Invasion of the Ticks." I would recommend the Advantix. Get the correct dose for the weight of your dog. It is applied once a month to the skin at the back of the nect.
