Help! I just got a 12wk old Maltepoo, Mason. He is our first puppy ever so I apologize in advance if my question is silly. He has lots of fur..and when he goes #2..some gets stuck to him. I have tried wiping with a warm cloth..even doggie wipies..but he still stinks. How often can I bath him and when I take him for his first grooming trip..will they trim around the area so nothing...can get stuck to him? Poor little guy. I've only had him 2 days so I am also struggling with potty training...but other peoples postings have sure helped me out. Thanks. Any advice you can lend will sure be appreciated.

Since your pup has a full coat once a week is ok. And once it gets its first hair cat he/she will only need a bath every few weeks unless it gets into something nasty lol. Your groomer will most likely trim that area.

I have short haired doggies, but I would think a puppy shampoo would be safe. Also, yes a groomer should trim around his tushie so he doesn't get any "hangers". I might try that myself, if it's a problem already.

My maltepoo is about 13 weeks. We had her groomed shortly after we got her. We had the same problem with the poo and the hair, and the groomer cut the hair around her bum really short. It was worked out perfectly! No more problems! She does get smelly and dirty easily, I think because of her hair type. We have to brush her every day. Also be careful about the hair in her ears...she needs to have them plucked out. Ours had tons of hair in her ears when we got her and she had a infection in both ears.

About the potty training, she came to us basically potty trained. She followed the older dogs around at the breeder's house and did what they did, so she learned. But we hung a string of bells on the door and every time we took her outside to go potty, we picked up her paw and hit the bells with it. Now she does it on her own to let us know she needs to go out.

    Good luck!!!!

Yes, I would take her to a groomer and get her trimmed around her behind. That should help a lot!

When we changed Rosie (Maltese) over from puppy milk 2 water it turned out we did it a little 2 quickly 4 her as she got constapated 3 times & the third time her poop stuck 2 her hair. It was quite a horrible thing as she kept trying 2 clean it off on our carpet by dragging her bbehind around on the ground. We ended up giving her a bath & having 2 clip that area. We now keep that hair clipped 2 avoid any further accidents. :p

We have Yorkies but have run into the same problems. If you don't have clippers get a pair of sissors and trim her butt. this will help till you go to groomer. be sure and ask groomer to trim there.
