My mother finch is having a bad time :(

Hey all, unfortunately my mother finch stopped feeding her babies and one by one they have died. I couldn't figure it out, then the other day I noticed she was sitting funny..so I took her out and she had some sort of very very thin (almost invisible!) string wrapped around her foot. I noticed it was on her other foot too, but her toe has already turned black...so I'm positive she's going to lose it. I did my best to clean her other leg up and it looks alright, it hasn't turned black. this happened a few days ago, so if it was going to turn black....wouldn't that have already happened? I'm afraid to take her to an avian vet (about 4 hours away) as I think it would be too stressful for her, and I don't know what more can be done for her. I clean her leg (actually it's her foot) every day, she's in a cage of her own in a warm area....she's eating and drinking fine, she's active. I give her petamine and fresh veggies daily. She's just sesitive about her foot....so I know it's got feeling. I just hope I got that string off in time. Any advice? Thanks for listening guys!

Wow! Do you even know what the string was? Thats sad, I can't tell you anything to help I have no idea, sorry about your babies and hope you can save your birds leg. Good Luck

I am sorry to hear about the finch and her babies.

The problem with the foot is that if its started going black there is a chance that infection is already there and she does really need to see an avian vet.

She will have been in alot of pain this is why she will have stopped feeding her babies.

The vet will probably either give her some anitibiotics or amputate the foot to reduce the chances of any infections spreading and casuing alot of problems.

Birds hide any infections, viruses or any illness until its too late to do anything about it..

Keep us updated on her progress..
