Help! I just got a new parakeet (my first one) about 3 weeks ago. He is finger tamed and eats well (although I haven't found any fruit or veggies he likes yet), BUT he won't play with any of his toys. All he does is sit on his perch whether it's in his cage or on his "playground". He doesn't explore, fly around his cage, or seem to want to do anything. He hardly ever chirps either. I feel bad. Any suggestions for getting him going so to speak?

Hi he is still getting used to his new surroundings some birds settle in straight away some it can take awhile.

There is nothing to worry about since he is eating and drinking well.
Keep offering fruit and veggies daily he will eventually try them, What i do is remove there seeds on a morning and put chopped ruit and vegtables in for about an hour or 2 then remove them they soon learn that these are food aswell.

Talking to him gently all the time will help him settle in faster also music usually helps.

best thing to do is give him a routine.
When you get uip on a morning say to him hello or good morning,
Talk to him while changing food and water and cage cleaning.
When its bed time for him simply say time for sleep or bed time and he will go off to his favourite spot on a perch and settle down and then switch out the light about 5 mins later.

Keep everything to the same time everyday and he will settle.
