a few weeks ago there was a posting on CL, and a story in a local newspaper, about a brindle female mixed breed dog having been found emaciated on the side of the road.
    photo below
I saw this picture and immediately thought of a young dog that used to live at a house not too far from here.
This poor short-haired dog was tied to a tree 24/7. Now and then (very infrequently) I would see the kids living there walking the dog or playing with her. Not enough to count as quality time. This poor young dog would sit there day after day. And yes I did complain to the police about it and they spoke to the woman and you'd see a cardboard box set up as supposed housing for the poor thing.
Just last month NH FINALLY passed a law stating a dog must be supplied with adequate house, so at that time there was nothing that could be done.
Then I saw a missing dog poster up.
So I called the police listed in the ad in the newspaper.
After calling the police in the town where the dog was found (about 45 minutes away by car) the police in my town were notified and they went to the lady's house to have her go see if the dog was hers. She finally went - after a week. I would have been there immediately.
She walked in, looked at the dog and said "not mine"
both polie depts. believe the dog is hers but with no collar/tags or chip there is no proof so nothign they can do. She apparently didn't even attempt to get the dog to respond to her. Just looked, declared no and left.
And it's better that she did this - and who knows maybe she even realized that. She has a slew of kids and is a single parent.
I do remember the day the dog went missing I saw her running around, off leash, with the kids trying to catch her. I never saw that dog off leash before and was surprised. I think she choose to leave
Anyway happy ending. The dog is on the road to mending and 2 firefighters in the town where she was found want to adopt her. They'll see who she gets along with better and that'll be who gets her.
I was the only person to give them any lead at all.
I'm glad she got away in spite of the 3 months of hell she had to go through.

Poor dog, what horrible conditions that poor thing had to endure! Kudos to you for doing something about her.....

Well she is better off now hopefully she will get healthy and find a forever home where she can get the love and attention that she deserves.
