Nails are gettting long

I was just noticing that my a couple of my budgies nails are getting a little bit long.. maybe a 1/4" long or probably shorter.. and also I have noticed that 2 nails are just a black little knob,.. it looks like that they have broken off at some point, i know they were like that when I got her... now she is NOT going to let me get near her to cut them right now is it going to be a problem or do they just break off on their own? And also do you think those black ones are infected or is that kinda normal as well? They do not seem to be bothering her...

Hi there nails can be clipped down but i suggest allowing either an avian vet or a professional breeder do it as if you cut too far down the bird can bleed to death..

Having black knobs where nails should be is not normal and should be checked out by an avian vet as birds get ill very quick and are great at hiding illness until its too late to do anything about it so i would have it checked out..

How often do you take your bird to the vet to get the nails clipped?? I imagine I am going to have to wait until she will stand on my finger so I can get her into another cage to take to the vet... The black knobs seem to be just real short toe nails... I will take her to the vet asap though...
