Any advice about name change and how long it will take her to recognize it? The previous owner named her Uh-Oh and I have a three and a two year old who says uh-oh all the time when they make a bob-boo, so the name uh-Oh is just not going to work.

I know someone who had a previous owner give their poor dog a stupid name too!

How thoughtless some people are when it comes to naming their dogs and cats! A name like that seems to doom an animal to end up in a shelter! Well, enough of the soap box!!

I would assume that the dog is new to your family. And I would assume that the dog is still pretty young. If this is the case - you should have no problem with the name change. Besides, the dog probably hates his name. A cute, sweet, gentle name would probably be welcomed by everyone.

Be patient - use the new name constantly and use lots of praise and treat rewards each time the dog responds to the new name. In a few weeks - the new name should be stuck on him!

I am soooooo glad you are changing his name!!!!

I say the same thing. You need to keep calling her name even if it takes awhile. dont give up. like , with my dog. it took awhile. but , now we did her commands like we did her name and she will do everything we say. just repeat the name you chose over and over again...

It's really easy to change a dog's name. Just call her new name and when she looks at you (because of your tone of voice), you give her a treat. Soon every time she hears her name, she will look to you.

It is a good idea to NOT overuse a name, or the dog will start ignoring it if he hears it all the time as part of regular conversation. Many people reserve using the name for when you want to get the dog's attention, and call him by nicknames when just referring to him in casual conversation.

I call Duke and Freckles by many names and they know them all. They even recognize my clap at the dog park and come running. Nothing is more aggravating at the park that someone shouting out a dogs name over and over.
I'm sure your dog will learn a new name fairly quickly, especially if you use the new name for meal calls.

what about the name Rosco? 2 syllables like Oh-oh and has oh on the end? that would be easy. But when I got Luther I randomly said names on the car ride home and when I said Luther he perked up his ears. I tried other names after that and he didn't respond to any but Luther. The humane society people (he was a the pound and the HS would stop in to check on him) called him Russell, i thought that was a stupid name for a dog.
good luck with the new namewhen do we get to see pics?
