this is about my parents dog which is a year old shitzu, about 4 months ago she started licking her bottom and chewing her tail, they couldnt find any sign of fleas or other things, she went back to the vet over a week ago, they put her on antibiotics for a ear infection, gave her a pred shot adn benedryl, but couldnt find a cause, talso she got supplements for her skin, but she is still licking and chewing

can anything think what would trigger something like this and how to get rid of it

Since a Vet has already examined her I guess they have ruled out anal glan problems, worms, and fungus infection. Only thing left I can think of is the all inclusive "allergies". If the prednesone helps then that could be it.
Let us know if the problem is identified.

Im thinking the same as Dukesdad, anal glands or abscess building up, allergies. I know that sometimes once they start a particular behaviour it can quickly turn into a habit...then its a matter of preventing them from licking, do your parents have an e-collar for her? Might have a better idea if she cant add to the irritation....or break the habit (if thats what its now become :? )

i was thinking yeast infection which travelled from her ears to her bottom?

hmmm, interestng about something like this becoming a habit,

Lil, she has always had ear problems, and I know a lot of yeast problems are not bacterial, I wonder like what dukesdad dad said, a fungus, I think of yeast in this catagory.

will try to get them to feed her a better diet and add some probiotics to the diet.

I am now wondering if its a habit/neorotic thing, becauseI am sure my dog drives that dog crazy, the way he treats it, every 5 minutes, he think it needs to go to the bathroom. eat, whatever, well they just moved here and then went out of town so I am watching her and I have only seen her lick once.
