Annie's really coming along with her training. Thanks to a new prong collar, she doesn't pull on walks and is getting the idea of heel, but she has one problem i'm not sure how to address. She loves people and dogs soo much, she'll lunge or stop or keep looking over her shoulder as we pass them if they don't stop and pet or play with her first. She's really quite amazed when someone won't stop jogging to adore her! She's not huge yet, but she's getting there, and I don't think many people want a lunging pit bull across the path, even if she can't get to them. How do I curb her enthusiasm? Will it just come as I keep dragging her past people or is there something specific I can work on?

Do you use the "Leave It" command? You know when the dog is about to eat something she shouldn't have you taught her the "leave it" command successfully so that she will... Leave it?

If so you should be able to cross that over in your walks to say "leave it" and she will understand to quit paying attention to the walker or Jogger that has her attention... If not you can incorporate that command while walking her and when she gets interrested and stops or lunges you can simply say "leave it" or "on buy" in Skijoring terms, do a jerk on your leash to make your point... Each time she responds to "leave it" without a leash jerk you heavily praise her even stopping to give her some playfull petting... This should get her over her "lunging" at strangers at least after you've told her to "leave it" she'll get the idea. I've used that for all of my dogs to keep them from eating something they aren't supposed to and to keep them from "lunging" at passersby and even from barking at what they beleive is an intruder... "Leave it" is a godsend.
