So my husband has a friend visitng this weekend (starting yesterday til Sunday) he brought his dog that is about a year old with him. It is a fairly well behved dog, but still young and I told him yesterday that I left him ini his crate bc the friend had said he couldn't trust the dog, so when I tell him about that he says no I meant I can't trust him when he is alone. To me that still means I can't trust the dog, so he goes to work this morning and leaves the dog out. So he is running around playing with Luther and then I hear it, he is peeing in the living room like 2 feet away from me, so I rush him outside, but then he won't go (I think he got nervous or scared) so I put him back in his crate, when I notice a pile of poop (definitely not Luthers) beside the cage!!! I was not very happy, what should I do?

Your house your rules and I would tell the guy that when he is not there you will be crating the dog to prevent accidents and that when he is there and the dog has an accident you expect he will clean it up... Common courtesy!

I went to my cousin's in Idaho on vacation and took the Honijade... No accidents in the house...she's trained better than that and all that jazz but when we were not there she was crated... We made sure she could go out in the yard before letting her and did not ask that they care for her in any way... You're not the dog's babysitter and you're dang gracious for letting him stay there WITH the dog... Don't feel bad about laying down ruled for your guest to follow.

I am too much of a wimp, I can't really complain to him! But now I am starting to get scared, bc tomorrow I leave town for the weekend and he stays here. I really thought that if someone brings a dog with them it would be trained. If I worried about Luther peeing at a friends house, I wouldn't bring him or I would keep him in the crate while I wasn't there, seems logical to me!

Whenever I take my dogs to someone's house, I take a gate or exercise pen to confine them. I know I can't trust them not to decide to mark something.
I agree--Your House, Your Rules! Crate him!

Lil, I would worrry that smell will cause Luther to try and mark those areas so, I would keep the dog confined

I am not so worried about luther marking but my cat, I think cat pee smells so much worse. but I forgot to say this earlier, I don't have any of the normal cleaning stuff (and hubby has the car today) but I have this stuff that you sprinkle on the carpet before you vacuum, it is Arm and Hammer pet fresh, it says that it is better than other ones bc it helps to pick up pet hair while vacuuming, it also has insturctions for using it to clean up accidents, do you think this is good enough? bc they just put new carpeting in before we moved here and I don't want to ruin it. Thanks!

Lil, its a natural instinct whne a strange dog comes into another dogs territory to mark, so even though Luther hasnt done it before, he may try it , a cat shouldnt mark on a dogs spot. You need ot get somehting like natures miracle, becaus eyou will ned neutralize the smeell. Do you have nay vinagar? you can try mixing it wiht some water and spray until you can get natures miracle. the arm and hammer will only mask the oder.

    good luck

Natures Miracle works great and even better if you can get a 60cc syringe and a 14 or 18g hypodermic needle (your vet or a local vet supply store may be able to sell one) then inject the Natures Miracle through the carpet (as long as it doesnt stain).

that sounds crazy wwith the needle and all, how did you ever find out about that? I am worried if Luther pees somewhere I won't find it right away, he did that before!!

delauc, great idea about usng a syring to get under the carpet.

Lil, you can buy a cheap black light and it should show where the pee stains are
