  :( Hi everyone I'm new to the fourm and I have a slight problem and I want to share with all of you and maybe you guy's can help me with it!! I have a neighbor that takes care of puppies 3-4 weeks old until they can be adopted out (it's through like the animal shelter) anyways its her responabillity to take care of these puppies she had 3 of them last week for 4weeks me and my lover had these puppies 95% of the time because she kept calling saying she was sick or couldn't deal with them. I adopted one of thoeses puppies he's a little aussy, now I had him since he was 3-4 weeks fed him and I know everything about him, but this neighbor of mine claims she knows all about dogs and she keeps telling what I can and can't do with him. Example I should not give him dry food I will kill him!!!!! another example do not give him anything to chew on because he'll break off small peice and choke and die. She comes over still acts as if owns him she takes stuff away from him that she feels that he shouldn't have!!!!! help

I would thank her for her advice, research to make sure you know what you are doing, and then decide how YOU want to do things! Don't discount everything she says just because she is annoying, but you have the right to do things the way you feel is best. Just research the issues so you can make an informed decision.

She can't take things away from your pup if you don't let her in the house. If you legally adopted the dog, he is yours. If she continues to hassle you, I'm sure you could bring the police in, but this would be a last resort in my opinion.

So when she tells you things, nod and smile, be polite, thank her, and then do things your way....

well that is a tough one, because she really thinks she is dong what is best for your pup, but it is your puppy. Certain dry foods aren't very good for dogs (or anything) some are better than others, but that is a decision you need to make unless she offers to pay for the food?
And with the chewing stuff, alot of things do break and aren't good for the puppies digestive track, causing lots of problems, but there are some things they can or even should chew on. You need to research and decide what is good and bad. The only reason your neighbor should step in, is if you dog was having an emergency and she really knew how to handle it and you gave her permission. Otherwise it is your dog, but I am sure she feels like guilty if you do the slightest "wrong" (in her opinion thing)

First of all I would get it clear on who owns the puppy. If she says it's you, then go and license the dog in your name. The longer you have the pup, the more attached you will become and the pup to you.

If you just go on the assumption that she gave you the dog, she just may try to come back and reclaim it. It sounds to me that she thinks she still owns the puppy. So you might want to get that cleared up today before you get even more attached.

Then once you have that clear, you can listen to her advise and like Jamiya says, research what you think is best for the pup. But don't let the neighbor come over and dictate what you can and cannot do.

Also, what's up with a shelter letting someone foster dogs when the person can't handle the responsibility?

update to let you all know!

:m11: I made it finalized Simon is mine now. I went down and paid for him. For the last week I've kept him away from her because I've been working with him and I don't need any interference from her. I've been putting my foot down with everybody and now with her because he's mine, no-one is going to tell me how raise him but me and only me! Thank you for listening to me!!!! :y_the_best:
