New kitten won't eat

    Hi there,
I got a new kitten on Sunday. She is 8 weeks old and an absolute cutey. I was told she was eating fine and able to use a litter tray. But she has not eaten any solid food (either wet or dry) since I got her home 3 days ago. She just doesn't show any interest in it at all. She has had some water, and seems to quite like that premade cat milk. She also shows no signs of recognition at the litter tray either!

Any ideas of how I can help her to eat properly? I am really worried for her. She actually seems fairly happy (running around and full of energy) but I just wonder how long it will last if she isn't eating properly :(

First of all, where did you get the kitten? 8 weeks is awfully young. If you can, find out what she was eating before and try that food. Second, Keep her in a small room like a bathroom to get her used to her surroundings, as a whole house can be overwhelming. Keep her food and litterbox in the room with her and she should get the idea, most cats pick up on this skill naturally, but if she was taken away from her mother too young she might not fully understand it.

If you can't get her to eat cat food, make sure you don't stop with the cat milk until you get her eating. A kitten that young could get very sick from lack of nutrition. Try shredding some chicken breast into small pieces, mine go nuts for that. Also try tuna fish in the can.

Try heating some canned kitten food up, I add the kitten milk to it and mush it up, just be careful with the microwave, it keeps heating for a few minutes after you take the food out...I usually test the centre of it with my finger to make sure its not too hot. The heat brings out the smells of the food.

you could also offer her NutraCal to supplement and put a tiny bit of Karo corn syrup on her gums...that usually gives them a sugar boost to eat.
I hope this kitten truly is 8 weeks old
