no wood shavings under the eggs

Well, I put wood shavings in the budgie nest box, but she cleaned out every last piece of it and now she's got an egg. Is this ok? Will it still incubate properly? The other hen doesn't mess with the shavings. I took out the old nest box from the last clutch and disinfected it and put clean shavings for her. I'm glad they laid their eggs on the same day, I think that's neat. Sassy...the bright green hen is about 2 1/2 and the other hen is just a tad younger. This is sassy's first clutch, I hope she turns out to be a good mom! I'll keep you updated.

I'm no expert in parakeet breeding, but my female parakeet laid three eggs about a month and a half ago and every time I would try and put shavings, oatmeal, or paper in the box she would take it all out of the nesting box. I thought too that the birds weren't going to be warm enough. To make along story short all three of my baby budgies hatched and are nice and healthy. Also my cage was placed in the warmest room or my house and the cage was three-fourths of the way covered. Hope this helps.

All i used to do was remove the egg place more shavings in the nest and placed the egg back in the nest box.
The reason for the shavings is that when they parents leave the nest it helps retain some of the heat and also helps keep the eggs clean when they start to hatch as when the hen turns her eggs the shavings remove any poop from the other chicks or the parents.

Aslong as the room the birds are in is warm i do not think there will be a problem.
