I have photos of my former parakeet leaning on my Bridge kitty, Tami. I'll have to dig those out and scan them

That's a very cute picture. :y_the_best: I also didn't know about a cat's saliva being dangerous to a budgie. I'll have to read up on that. That's very interesting.

Cat saliva is loaded with dangerous bacteria. Not just for budgies, but for other animals too. I'm not sure about ingesting it, but cat bites can turn ugly really fast.

When grooming, if we get bit by a dog, we just sort of wash it up, see if it needs stitches, and if not, back to work. A cat bite gets flushed, washed, and the groomer goes to the doctor for antibiotics. Ditto for cat scratches. Cat scratch fever isn't just a song. It's a real disease, and a serious one.

Is'nt human saliva toxic to budgies also? I used to stick my tongue out and mine would peck at it. My mother told me not to do that anymore because human saliva was toxic to them....this was years ago. I'm not sure where she read/heard that but wondered if it was true.

Yes, human saliva is ridden with bacteria...that's why when you are bitten by a human and it breaks the skin, you have to undergo tetnis(sp?) shots. Now, swapping saliva via kissing is relatively safe, the saliva contact with the bloodstream is dangerous.

And many humans experience swelling and infection from cat bites which break the skin. I would imagine dog saliva is just as bacteria ridden as well.

My son was attacked by a dog which broke his skin and even though he didn't suffer adverse effects, the er dr gave him a series of shots and insisted that the wound not be covered (the bandage would encourage bacteria growth).

Kathy, those are really cute pics! A bird living on the edge LOL
