Hi everyone just wanted to share the news my normal grey and fawn coloured zebra finches have laid there first egg today.

I had to give them a nest box as they decided they wanted to nest in there food dish not a very good idea but finches will nest in anything they can fit there bodies in.

Cant wait for them to lay more and for them to hatch.
    Will keep everyone updated..

WOW! They are laying eggs fast!!
I always thought it took them a while to adjust to their new habitat, before they would start laying.

Hi Sam well from what i can remember they will start laying eggs 5-10days after the introduction of a nest box but my 2 wanted to start early so the food bowl was what they wanted for a nest.
They can lay upto 8eggs sometimes more but the norm is usually 4 but none of my animals are normal so knowing my luck there will be more then 8 eggs heheheheheh i dont mind either way as they are adorable birds with the cutest of whistle i will have to try doing a recording and adding it somehow...

Ok. I read that if you don't want them laying any more eggs or hatching any. You can take the eggs out and replace them with marbles or rocks the size of the eggs.
I though that was kinda cool!

HI everyone just an update the finches now have 5eggs gosh i cant wait for them to hatch its been years since i have had baby finches mum and dad are doing great sitting there on the eggs dad does days mum does nights think its cos she likes to sleep most of the time and sitting on the eggs is great cos she in the nest lol.

Anyway on another note i had mizt spayed well so i thought anyway she had come into heat in august and the past week she been really ill i took her to the vets and they suspected Pyometra well you can imagen how worried i got, well they done blood tests and they came back all normal apart from her protien levels which were a little high but thats due to her phantom pregnancy.
She also had a scan to check if there was any fluid building up and everything was clear so she is just having a severe phantom pregnancy she is on Galastop for the next 5days to dry up her milk and sort her hormones out poor girl is so distraught all she has eaten in a week is tuna poor thing gonna look like the fish before long lol

Anyway she seems to be getting better and is getting spayed properly in the next 3weeks or so when she is back to normal...
