over the weekend my dog developed some problems with his prostate swelling because we never had him nutered. he is a 9 year old beagle. He is at the animal hospital now and the vet is probably going to want to nuter him. Has anyone ever had their older dogs nutered and knows of any risks?

Its a pretty standard procedure with prostate problems. The hospital should give you instructions on what to watch for when you pick him up, if they dont talk to you about it then ask them.

It generally takes them longer to recover than a younger dog but should be back to normal activities within about 10 days to 2 weeks. Sometimes less, depends on the dog.

And you might need to have a follow up exam just to make sure everything is looking good.
