Orion my oranda is ill. iv had him for three yrs. I had to drain his 15gal aquarium and put him and my few other fish in my dustbin with a terracoter pot + filter. Some where along the line he got injured. Maybe by the pot or another fish.
He went back in his aquarium after 48 hrs and showed this open wound just behind his steering fin. It was red and angry and bits of skin were flaking off. I treated him with melafix, interpet anti internal bacteria treatment, but nothing helped. I then relised he was being attacked on his wound by my black moor. i took the moor out, and then a few days later, my cory was ripping his wound worse.

I sectioned orion off into a filtrated bowl and treated him as before. he'd stopped eating, and became extremely lethargic. I then relaised that the filter i was using had the smallest amount of carbon in it, so the treatments were being illiminated.

i transferred him into a 2 gal hosp tank today, and he now has pretruding fins, his wound is as red as ever and he has taken to swimming purely uupside down. He has rapid gill movement and is very doppy.

i feel its still and internal paracite so am treating with treatment nd melafix but he looks so ill.

I'm running out of options and desperate for a way to help him.

I wondered if salt baths in small sessions would help him heal.

Please if anyone has any ideas dont hesitate to suggest, I dont want him to die, and its looking so bleak for him.

He has never been ill in the 3 yrs i had him untill now.

    Please help!

It sounds more bacterial than parasitic. I'd suggest Maracyn-two. I don't believe there's any problems mixing it with Melafix. Also make sure the water parameters in the hospital tank are pristine.

Unfortunatly, i got home the nite i sent the post and he had died. He was so slimyand his skin falling off.

I was so upset, and still am. The peremiters, in terms of nitrite had deteriated and obviosly that must have casued the illness.

i felt it looked like an ulsor that had caused septisemia.

fish in our areas are loaded with these olsurs in the LFS.

Thank you for your help anyway,

    amy
