Well last night I decided to try and let marley out of the cage even though she will not sit on my finger.. I'm not sure if that was a good or bad idea...
Anyways I have the big door open (whole house has been safty proofed) so I try to get her on my finger she flys out and flys into a couple walls OUCH the worst sound I have ever heard, however she never fell to the floor... she chilled outside for about 2 hours.. flew into a few walls but by the end she figured it out and was dodging and weaving like a fighter jet by my head squacking away haha.. she eventually went in byherself as she landed on her cage maybe by accident..
sorry this is so long but what I am asking is am I a horrible person? I know its not that good that she hit the wall but she is super fine.. and after she had learned how to fly cause i think she is a baby.. she was having so much fun and she got good at it landing on everything she could,,
some input but no yelling please :)

My birds now don't free fly in the house but when I was younger we had a cockatiel that did.

Not sure if it was a good idea or not. I would have probably just have let her fly in one room (like a bedroom) and not the whole house since it was her first time out.

Sometimes Kiwi will flutter into walls but not in full flight and he seems to be ok after but depending on the speed she hits the wall with she may run the risk of breaking something.

Also remember to keep mirrors and windows covered and always keep the toilet lid closed (my neighbors had one of their budgie drown in the toilet, since the sides are smooth they have nothing to grab on to to get out). Buster likes to chew on wires so I aways have to keep and extra close eye on him when he's out.

She was only in one room.. I live in a basement suite so it is really just one big living room.. I had all the possible doors including the bathroom shut.. but I agree its probably better off she is in her cage then out and hurting herself... maybe I will wait again until I get a bigger house... but she seemed to get the hang of it by the end.. once she realized she could land on anything she was hoovering like a hummingbird LOL

My cockatiels have free range of the house for a while when I can supervise them. I do have to keep a bit of an eye on them as they seem to like chewing on phone and electrical cables and screens on doors and windows. Alot of the time they just flutter to the floor and wander round eating dirt or something ( they seem to find something even when the floor has just been vacumed). My female has a weight problem and I have found that letting her out for a fly tends to kep her weight down. Flying is good exercise for the birds and everthing i've read recomends letting them fly if the cage isnt big enough to allow flying.
