Hi! Tigger is sleeping on my lap as I type this, so this will probably take twice as long to do! Well, I could use a little help . I have a family room with fabric furniture in it where Tigger likes to sleep. In that room, he also has a scratching post. Once in a while he still likes to sink his nails in the couch. We can't declaw him because he goes outside sometimes. Off of the family room, isthe living room with a leather couch in it, and see a few little nail holes on one side only. Im more worried about the leather couch than the fabric one. We correct him about it when we see him do it, but what to do when we are gone? Any suggestions?Nano. Thanks!

Let me start by saying that I'm glad you're not considering declawing, regardless of your reason. If you were to research what declaw was, I seriously doubt that you'd consider it weather your baby was an indoor kitty or outdoor one.

I'm having a similar problem with my baby and I'm opting on trying putting a strip of tape (doubled over clear packing tape or double sided tape) on the spots that she claws on. They usually only claw on selected areas so you'll know right off where to put the tape. Cats HATE the feel of sticky tape so it should work fine.

There's also the option of nail trimming :)

Double sided sticky tape worked great on my couch. There is also the air spray called Ssscat that might work if he is only bothering one part of the couch.

i was told- or read somewhere that if u stick tin foil on the couch or affected areas they wont scratch there.

I can relate to a kitty scratching on the furniture. My kitty boy Hunter has been scratching on the wood dresser and nightstand in my bedroon at about 2, 4 and whatever in the a.m.

I've tried shutting him out of the room and such as a disciplinary action, but it's not working all that great as when I wake up in the nightime, I let him back in due to being so tired.

I am going to try the tape thing and then if that doesn't work then I will put up some foil. I can see the places where is scratching, just a little bit.

Good luck to you and I am glad that you aren't declawing your kitty too, it's an awful thing to do kitties. Taking off the tip of their finger not just the nail at the first digit.

 i keep saying this in random threads, but i'm so proud of it... i was having scratching problems too... until i got thier cat condo.. they havent touched the furniture to claw it since... the condo to them is like a claw scratching amusement park!

if u live in the states i could give u the name of the woman who made mine on ebay... it was a SUPER great deal. and i just posted some pics of the boyz enjoying it :)

try getting an sctaching post, every time you see Tigger scratching the couch move him to the scratching post.

i know the feeling..i have 2 brand new couches..got them less than 2 months ago..there is not really scratching...but more or less stretching and puncture wounds all over the arms...i am going to buy plexiglass an attatch it to the arms only...
