Peeing on Christmas tree

Well, Since Christmas is right around the corner, I thought I would bring this topic up.
Each and EVERY YEAR, my male dogs think its wonderful to pee on the christmas tree and the presents. Obviously, we don't put out any presents any more.
I have tried EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK TO STOP THE PEEING!!
    NONE WORK!
This year even though I live in RI and have cold winters, I saw a palm fiber optic christmas tree at Walmart. I thought Maybe the dogs won't pee on that???
Everyone at work laughed at me real HARD.
I am not even kidding, I need help!
    Any suggestions????
    Sue

I'm sorry for laughing too but it is soooo funny!

So, if you've seen this artificial one in Walmart, does that mean you usually have a real one? Maybe (if so) that's your source right there. Anything remotely outdoorsey is gonna make them go pee on it.

If not, then I dunno, sorry.

I only have a small 3ft tree standing on a table now, cause between the cats and now the dog pulling it over I gave up last year and bought a new little one.

Years ago I had a real tree and my dog, Charlie, peed on it so I went back to using a fake one again. Mind you then the cats were running up it and wrecking it, the dogs have never peed on the fake ones though.

I am wondering, because I have heard of dogs peeing on the fake ones, if maybe there is something they put on the trees that attract them, maybe something in the fire retardent (stuff?) or some trees are artificially scented. Or maybe if for some dogs its the 'visual' aspect of it.

Good luck, hope you manage to have a tree-pee-free Holidays..... :)

In order to keep the dogs from eating the ornaments off the tree (and believe me - Nala would), we put an ex-pen up around the tree. Of course, now that the birds occupy the space that the tree usually does, I have no idea what we are going to do this year. But that's another story.

Perhaps using an ex-pen or some other manner of keeping the dog away from the tree might help?
