Picsey spayed.........

Well my baby was spayed today. She just seems so young !! The overnight stay is killing me !! Picsey always sleeps with me and my husband. They said all went well , but would'nt let me visit her. I worked at a vet's office and visits were allowed there, so I was a little shocked by this policy. Is this fairly normal ??
Anyway ...I'll be holding my breath until I'm holding my baby !!!

I have never personally heard of overnight stays for spays. Sorry, don't want to worry you, I am sure lots of places do that as a precaution. I know Harley was really sick after her spay.

I have also not heard of a vets office not allowing you to visit. Again, my experience.

I would however inquire as to why it wasn't allowed and if that is normal policy for them.

My friend got her dog spayed about 2 weeks ago and she had to leave her there overnight.

 

I have heard of dogs staying overnight after being spayed or neutered. None of mine ever have. As far as you not being able to visit I think that is BS!

 

I'd be demanding to see my dogs. Especially if they were keeping them overnight!!! I've personally never heard of a dog staying over night unless something was wrong.

Not trying to freek you out or anything, thats just been my experiance!

 

Vets often keep females overnight (sometimes males too) because the spay surgery is more complicated than most neuters. It also depends on when they do the surgery, and how quickly the dog comes out of the anesthetic, they won't usually send home a dog that is still stumbling around, for obvious reasons.

 

Picsey is home and doing fine. Her appetite isn't normal yet ,and she is sleeping a lot. All in all she seems pretty good. She's only four months old so this is the youngest spay I've ever done. I know it's standard for most females to stay but the no visiting thing is what bothered me. The only abnormality was a rash under her front leg. Not a reason to deny visits if you ask me. Anyway...she got a goody bag with new toys and a new t-shirt for being a good girl. I'm just soooooo glad she's home !!!!!

The no visit thing may have been to help keep her calm. Some dogs get excited when their owners come to visit, then won't settle back down again afterwards. Did you ask why the no visit policy?
