I need help right away. My wife and I have lived together with our two cats Bernie (male) and Muffin (female) for 7 years. They sleep together, share the same food dishes, and use teh same litter pan. We never had to ever worry about them alone, because they are two laid back cats. Last Saturday, the male cat (Bernie) all of a sudden started to run at and attack Muffin, and scratched her her nose and body. When I mean attacked, it is like he was trying to kill her. That night we had to seperate them, and they both were reaching under the doors with their arms. The next day my wife took Bernie (the male) to her parents house to leave him there for the week, we thought that maybe the other cat was sick and he detected that. After a full phsyical at the vet, the cat is in perfect health. We bought bernie back yesterday and after a week apart we have to seperate them. What do I do, this is killing us all. Any advice please, email me

can't email you...hope you come back to read answers
Is there a strange cat hanging around your house that might be upsetting your cats?
Are they spayed/neutered (I'm assuming they are).
any changes in the home? sometimes something simple like just new carpeting can upset some cats
I would suggest a Feliway diffuser. It's like those Glade plugins but release pheromones (and I probably spelled that wrong) that help a cat to relax - but naturally without drugs.
You would have to have one for each room the cat frequents, and the results from these is virtually instant.
Good luck and I hope harmony reigns soon in your home.

Thanks so much for your messgae. This fighting started all of the sudden, but I definitely know that there were no other cats hanging around outside that ours might have seen. We haven't changed anything in the house (that we know of) but they are much more perceptive than us. I am so glad that you said to get the Feliway diffuser--we are leaving right now to get a few. It seems like they are not recognizing each other's scents. When I took Berbnie (the male) to my parent's house, there was another male cat there and they were playing so nicely! No aggression. But, then I bring him back to my house to try again with Muffin, and Bernie wants to kill her. Thanks again for your reply!! We'll keep you posted...
