Hi – :) I'm new to this board and I'm hoping someone might be able to help. :bow_now:

Our dog Triton is a 7-year-old, 90-pd rottweiler-pitbull mix. He has severe allergies. Has had dozens of Vet exams including 2 dermatologists. :? Without going into his entire history it all boils down to this – he was put on Cephalexin (antibiotic) for 12 weeks and is now on, Ketoconazole (daily) and Atopica (daily)$118 for 15 pills, 100mg.

This is costing a small fortune  not to mention all of the Vet bills but Triton is a :kiss_heart: and worth every penny. If he was "cured" then that would be one thing but, he still has blood blisters in-between his toes. Triton licks his paws constantly to the point they are raw, bloody and swollen. :( Almost every time he walks he leaves spots of blood. I don't know if he's licking because of the blood blisters or if his licking is causing his paws to be inflamed. :?:

My question is this – if anyone has had any experience with blood blisters in-between the dogs toes, I would appreciate any feedback. And, does anyone know where you can buy Atopica cheaper? Would love to hear any opinions or if you can relate as my heart is breaking seeing Triton in so much discomfort.

Thank you so much for listening.

I think you ought to research feeding raw to your boy. Pit Bulls are notorious for allergies and anyone I've heard about who had a dog with allergies and started feeding raw with them the allergies disappeared. If you're interrested in learning more feel free to email me at bantam_sara@hotmail.com. There are safe ways to feed raw, I'd really look into it those blood blisters might just go away.

In the meantime I'd put an E collar on him like in the pics of the girls on the thread "my girls are home" (something like that) so that he will let his paws heal, by then the irritation is gone unless it's an allergy thing...I'd do the e-collar and then determine if the allergies truly are gone and if not...look into the Raw diet if there were a local Butcher around here I'd put all six of my own dogs on that diet including my two pits. Hope this helps, weekends are slow on the boards so don't be surprised if not many folks respond till monday. Good luck with your boy, I'd love to see some pics.

Sara, thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I am open to anything that may help Triton so I shall be sending you an email to find out what feeding RAW is all about :?:

Triton is so very handsome and so sweet!!!!! Does not have a mean bone in his huge 90 pound body but he looks like he could EAT someone in two bites  He has a head the size of a football if not bigger and a mouth to go with it. When you hand feed him a treat (even cooked chicken or steak) he takes it ever so gently in tiny nibbles. Triton doesn't know he's a big guy and he's so eager to please. If ever he gets scolded (rarely) his ears go back and he looks so sad until you let him know it's okay. He's the most sensitive dog I've ever had. In fact, if you yell at him to stop licking he will yawn as to say "I'm NOT licking - I'm just yawning"

I will look into the Ecollar. I tried putting booty's on him which he detests and looks so depressed when he has them on. Also tried powder in-between the toes to help them dry. *sigh*, so far nothing has worked so Triton avoids walking as much as possible.

Just can't figure out WHY he has those blood blisters :?

Thanks again Sara and I will post a picture of him once I figure out how to do that

In the reply up above where you type in text are little rectangle buttons one has the IMG on it, click on there then insert the URL of your pic (from photobucket or another online hosting source) then IMG button again and there you have your pic.
