My outdoor cat Blakie.Something is wrong with her.Today I looked at her and her umm...you know the pink things on cats eyes but it was bigger than ever. And the worst part was she is always extremly friendly but today she was hissing and hitting her kittens.

What could possibly be wrong with her?

Kitty, I don't want to frighten you but you need to take her to the vet ASAP. That third eyelid (as it's called) could be caused by any number of bad things like feline leukemia, an injury to nerves serving the eye or parasite infestation just to name a few.

EDITED TO ADD: It's not unusual to see that extra eyelid as a kitty opens her eyes from a good nap, but if it's stays there for a long length of time, I'd definitely get her to the vet

Me and my dad probably r going to take her to the vet.
But I dont get it why did she hiss and hit her kittens?

has she been separated from her kittens for any length of time...usually if they are separated at all..the mom doesnt recognise them right away..but that should fade if she is back together w/ them.

That would make sense if she's in discomfort or pain.

Blakie never was seperated from her kittens.
But is there any chance she could have rabies?

hopefully she's had all of her shots and didn't contact anything. sometimes seeing that third eyelid can mean a high fever. Either way she's need a vet

Sorry about Blakie and I hope everything works out!

On a side note I had to laugh this looked more like a sc-fi movie with everyone saying "the third eye"

    Question

Is this the same outdoor cat you were writing about back in April? The one your Mom wouldn't let you keep, the one she kicked, then she changed her mind, then the cat disappeared, then it came back and your neighbors said it was abandoned, then the owners showed up? With all these people claiming this is their cat, couldn't one of them have taken the responsibility to have this cat spayed and vaccinated so you wouldn't have to worry whether or not she has rabies? Not to mention bringing more unwanted kittens into this world. Sorry I don't mean to be mean to you, but an adult needs to step in and take custody of this cat and her kittens before they end up with feline aids if they don't already have it. This is a very sad situation. Honestly not trying to make you feel sad but this is just so cruel it makes me upset to think about it.

i think this is the cat that the neighbor boy was poking with a stick and kitty tales and her dad put them in her back yard. kitty tales? werent you going to find homes for the kittens? and werent you going to move? you said your dad is a cat lover...can you talk him into taking blakie to the vet?

deb...i totally understand where you are coming from. it is hard to listen to stories of kitties that are sick and noone is taking them to the vet for help...or taking them to no kill shelters. wasnt it you that posted something similar a while ago?? sometimes i think its important to give a little "tough love" :|

Ok.This morning I saw Blakie. She ran up to me and I feed her.I was petting and kissing her until mom came out.Thwn I waas in the car waiting for my grandpa and saw that Blakie ran uo to my mom and started to rub against her leg. Then my mom kicked her so hard that she went flyong of the steps! I started to cry "How could she posibly kick a little kitten like that?!"I was saying to myself. Then when we were just leaving for school, Blakie still friendlily went after my mom I was really worriedthat mom would kick her again.Than after dance I could not find herv anywhere.
