Well, I just took my 2 budgie babies away from their parents and into their own cage. It's been about a week since I've seen them go into the nest so I figured they were ready to "leave the nest"

Now she's acting like she wants to lay again. Also the other pair acts like they want they want to nest as the hen is constantly in and out of the nest box. So maybe I'll get some more babies! They are soooooooooo fun. I love to watch them grow up and see them learn new things.

Now to the finches. My zebra finch that kicked their first baby out of the nest now has 4 babies just leaving the nest. Since they've left the nest they are acting like before and chasing the babies and pulling feathers....sooooo I took the nest out completely. The babies all line up at night and perch together, and the parents are still feeding the babies even tho I've seen them all eat on their own. I've never actually seen the babies drink tho...so at what stage will they drink on their own, or are they and I'm just not seeing it? Thanks again for all your help!!!

Sounds like your birds are really enjoying being parents.

The baby finch's should start drinking on there own in another few days i always wait until i see them drinking and eating well before removing them.
Hopefully since you removed the nest the parents will be more interested in looking after the chicks rather than breeding.
Its usually the males that feed the babies at this stage with the female doing it every once in a while.

My baby was fully weaned and drunk on his own at around 6weeks old.

Hope to see some pictures soon :D

baby birds have flew the coop

Well, I've now witnessed all 4 babies drink, and they've been eating for awhile, they've even bathed now...it's so cute! They are now in their own cage. The day I took them out of their parents cage, I found an egg on the cage floor...so just taking out the nest didn't stop them from laying! I haven't found any more eggs in there now...so we'll see what happens...they need a rest!!
However I did find an egg in each of my budgie nest boxes today!!! I'm interested to see if any are fertile. One pair is the same as before, light green hen, and a turquoise male...the other is a grey male and bright green female. I can't wait to see babies! I'll keep you all updated, and if I don't get back online before easter...I wish you all a "Happy Easter"!!!
