:? My 11 mo. old Aussie was neutered last Tuesday. On Thursday I had to take him back to teh vet because he had managed to lick in incision enough ( while I was at work ) to re-open it a bit. The vet put in 2 stitches Thursday afternoon. Now we have noticed he seems to be having trouble urinating. He goes without letting us know he has to go ( he IS fully house broken-so this is a real concern) and when he tries to go outside, nothing happens. I can't reach my vet until tomorrow... any ideas on what could be wrong? He does not appear to be in any pain...

Could be a UTI (urinary tract infection)

He is already on antibiotics, and this just started right after he was neutered. I am wondering if the vet messed up ... or even if it is from the antibiotics or the pain meds... has me worried.

Even if he's on antibiotics he could still have developed a UTI. There are antibiotic resistant strains of most bacteria. He might need a different antibiotic.

Or it could be a reaction to the antibiotic he's taking.

Or, it could be swelling at the neuter site putting pressure on his bladder and urethra, making it hard for him to "go", and also making him feel like he has to "go" when he doesn't.

Or it could be a combination of all of the above.

I just went through the same thing with my own puppy. It was a combination of UTI, infection at the incision, and swelling. He had also licked and chewed his incision, which probably caused the infection. Once we got the infection cleared up and the swelling went away, so did his peeing problems.
