Problems with Frontline? Not working anymore?

I have always given my dogs Frontline Plus and it has always worked great. Notice the past tense. It no longer works. I gave it to them, they still had fleas so I thought maybe I got a bad batch of the Frontline so I bought more ($90 more fyi) and gave it to them 2 wks after the first dose and alas, the fleas survive. So when Maggie was at the vet, the vet said to try something else so she gave her Advantix and I bought a dose to give Indy so we'll see how that does.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    Have the fleas adapted?

I have not heard of that, hopefully the advantix works. maybe you need to try to get rid of the fleas, ie in your house/yard usually when you ahve a big infestation this will h elp

Ive only heard of it when its been the fake stuff....Ive been using for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. I guess a bad batch is always possible, maybe there is something in the fleas becoming immune....Ive never heard of it though, did you call Meriel, they have an 800 number on the package and the website. If you give them the lot number they may be able to help you out.

I bought both of the Frontlines from the vet so they better not be fakes. I've thought about putting stuff out in the yard, I just hate to do that b/c I don't want it to make the dogs sick. I don't really think there are any in the house. I did just clean the carpets so that should be good.

It's not a lot of fleas, but they definately aren't dying b/c there is a lot of flea dirt on them.

I'm hoping with the Advantix and the cold weather coming, that should take care of it but come next spring/summer ?????

It's just frustrating. I may call them and see if I can get a new batch or maybe my $$ back. its worth a shot anyway.

I'm going to give them a really good bath this weekend to get all that flea dirt off and see if the Advantix crap is working.

You can use a dose of Capstar (from your vet) that will kill all fleas on them. It won't kill the eggs, though, so then you have to use Frontline or Advantix or something.

You can also bathe them in a non-scented soap such as Ivory or Dove. If they will let you, standing the whole dog in a tub of water (I know - may be impossible with your giant dogs) with just the head sticking out and then making sure you wash the head really well works.

There is a stuff called Garlic Barrier (http://www.garlicbarrier.com/) made for spraying outside that you might try. It's just garlic, so it won't harm the dogs.

I use garlic supplements for my dogs rather than the monthly spot stuff, and I vaccuum the dog areas frequently. I also used Garlic Barrier outside a couple times this summer, although I don't know if it really helped or not. If I get worried, I use food-grade diatomaceous earth rubbed into the dogs' coats (be careful not to inhale it or let them inhale it), but I have never seen a flea on my dogs. *knocks on wood*
