Problems with sickness ..

I've had problems with my cat since christmas when she was playing with a mouse. It's been on and off with her - she has had diarrheoa and sickness, not daily. Some days she is fine.

I haven't taken her to the vets as my neighbour is a vet and told me not to worry too much at the moment. But of course I do worry. I've just been away for the weekend and returned to a couple of piles of vomit, which was just like her cat food brought straight back after eating.

About 2 weeks ago she did seem to have a bug, and then wouldn't eat so I changed her cat food to another brand. Since then she seems to be more sick so I'm thinking about trying her on her old stuff again to see what happens. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with her in herself, it's just the sickness problem.

When she eats tuna she's fine, but of course she can't live on a diet of tuna. She's not a chicken lover either. I'm wondering if the new food she's been eating is a little more rich than she's used to as it's in gravy. Anyway, my thoughts are try a couple of days on her old stuff and then if she's still sick take her in to the vets for a check over.

My late cat was sick a lot and I am having that 'here we go again' scared kind of feeling! I know I'll get some good advice here anyway .. so thanks.

Have you tried any of the tuna canned foods made for cats? Active Life has one called "shredded tuna". Its just tuna in juice but it has all the vitamins and minerals they need too. I think there are a few other brands like this too...maybe Fancy Feast and Pro Plan. I have to give my boy a powder supplement twice a day for his herpes and he won't eat it in regular canned food so I have to use tuna. I'm not comfortable with him eating people tuna for a long period of time so I think I'm going to give the Active Life a try. I hope your kitty feels better soon.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if any of those foods are available here, I've never heard of them before.

However, I decided this morning to get to see the vet, so I've just arrived home. Cassie's had bloods so my vet is ringing me with the results later - she's basically checking her liver and kidney function. Cassie's not been sick today - I put her back onto her old food and she's had a pouch - I'll give her another later on in 2 halves so she doesn't have a big meal all at once.

My vet said she can't feel anything like a tumour, so that's something. If the bloods are ok but she still keeps vomiting then we'll have to investigate further.

Nevermind about the Active Life....I think that company went out of business. I went to buy some today and thats what the store owner told me. :(

I'm glad to hear that she has not been sick today.

Hi. :D What were the results from the blood work? What did the vet say is going on with your kitty?

    Hi

The bloods came back ok. One kidney had a slightly high reading, but the vet said that could be due to the regular vomiting - and it wasn't high enough to cause any concern.

I spoke to my vet today as Cassie refused to eat this morning. She also had blood in her stool. She seemed to be hungry but didn't want the cat food, so my vet said to let her have the tuna for the next couple of days and keep my eye on her stools. In the past few weeks, whenever Cassie has had tuna she's not been sick, yet with the cat food she is.

The next step is to get an xray of her stomach. However, today I did manage to find some of the tuna flakes as mentioned above - HiLife - I haven't given Cassie any yet, but if she likes it it's probably a lot better than just normal tuna as it's designed for cats. I'll see how she goes.
