hello, I was told that Hartz flea medication is dangerious for dogs but today my mom went out and bought bio-spot, so before I put it on my dog, I wanted to see if it is dangerious or if it is safe to put on her. When I put Hartz on her she hacked a little bit but I don't think it was from the Hartz but I washed it off and will never use it again. My mom bought the Bio-Spot at a pet store that also sold Frontline... So in my opinion I think it would be okay but I just want to make sure she won't get sick

Personally I would never use any of the Hartz, Bio-Spot or any others products on my pets, Ive seen too many bad rections, some fatal, it may just be a small perscentage but not worth the risk. I do use Frontline though, I dont know of any adverse reactions ever recorded (apart from if the dog or cat can reach around to lick it there may be some hyper-salivation...more common in cats, but it'll pass).

I know that a couple of big name pet stores are now selling Frontline, in general Meriel (the makers) only sell to licensed vets in US and there are a couple of stores that have vets on staff so maybe that is why they can sell them, Ive been trying to research this but not having any luck :?

I tried Bio-spot and will never use it again! Zoey broke out in welts from head to hiney and was miserably sick. I washed it off quick and called poison control. I do use Frontline when needed. Don't use it!!!

I would not use any spot-on product that was not purchased from my vet. Many of them have proven to be quite toxic to dogs (and cats). Trying to save money ends up backfiring when you have to rush the dog to the vet, not to mention the suffering of the dog. Shortcuts and money-savers usually don't work with pets.

That being said, I don't use the ones from my vet either! :) I prefer to not poison my dogs and use other means of flea control.

Thats what I do also, unless there is a heavy infestation I only ever needed to use it about once every 3-4 months.....when I moved to the High Desert I never used it all, I guess fleas dont like the dry heat up there :)
