Questions from a friend

A friend of mine, hearing about and seeing the cats I have gotten from an Animal shelter, decided to adopt one herself. She brought himhome on Friday and took him to the vet on SaturdaY. The shelter said he was about 6 months old and the vet comfirmed this. SHe said that he also had some areas on his paws where there was hair grwoing in and qshe asked the shelter about this. They said it was from him putting his paws through the bars on the cage he was in to play. They also said that they tested him for ringworm and it came back negative. When she took him to the vet, she said the vet was very suspicious about the areas on his paws and also did a test. She said that the vet pulled some hair from the areas and put it in some kind of jar with 'stuff' in it. She has never dealt with anything like this before, and does have other cats. RIght now she is keeping the new kitty isolated until the results come back for this test.

She asked me if I knew anything about it and I told her I didn't but I would post and see if anyone has ever dealt with ringworm or knew very much about it. Anything you can tell me or links that you would recommend would be very helpful to her.

She also wanted to know about the room she is keeping the kitty in. It is her bathroom...does she need to do anything to the room?

    Thanks!!

Ringworm is contagious although its usually pets (and humans) that have compromised immune systems that get it easier, also some animals can carry it but have no symptoms.

Heres a link with all the information you looking for, including precautions to take.

Not trying to freak you out, over the years Ive handled probably a couple of hundred (at least) pets that have had it but Ive never caught it.
