Hello as you all know Nala passed away 2 weeks ago (we are doing better) but i got this letter today and i'm not sure what to think so i'm hoping for opinions

    It say

    Dear Rene,

I am writing to infrom you the the American Collage of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Foundation has recived a donation from Dr. (the vet where Nala passed) Their kind donation will aid the ACVIM foundations mission, which is to improve veterinary care for all animals by furthering our knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of animal disease in the fields of oncolgy, cardiology, neurology and small and large animal internal medicine. I know that this is a difficult time for you, but I hope that you will find some comfort in the knoledge that this donation, made in Nala's memory, will benift others..

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on behalf of the AMCIVM foundation.

I'm a little confused because this letter sounds to me like they donated Nala to scince i have very mixed feeling about this i PAID $165.00 to have her cremated and her ashes spread. I know it would be a good thing if they did this but they didn't give me the choice to do that they gave me a choice of burring her or having her cremated i chose cremation

    any opion's

    thanks
    Rene

i would call your vet and ask them what thisletter means, maybe your vet made an actual donation (money) to this place...maybe they didnt. Maybe they cremated her for free and used the money to donate to a charity...i would ask....im sorry foryour loss.

I could be wrong but to me it sounds like your vet may have made a cash donation or some other kind of donation in Nala's memory. I can't imagine your vet donating Nala to science without your concent and especially if you paid to have her cremated. I would call the vet and ask to find out for sure.

i do plan on calling in the morning i just wasnt' sure how to take this letter in a way it does sound like cash and in another way it sounds like something else. It would be a good thing if it was Nala they donated so they can do research but if that is the case i didnt really want to know about it i have very mixed feelings about that.

    thanks for the replies

I was thinking the same thing, that your vet made a donation in Nalas memory. A quick call to your vet would clear it all up! Again sorry for your loss.

Sorry just wanted to say one more thing this is not my normal vet he is a specialist in livers (sorry i dont' know the actual name for him) but he was great even tho he had only seen nala 2 time he was very concered and helpful. After the first vist he called every other day to see how she was doing till our next appt. so i guess i kinda freaked out for nothing i bet it was money. I read the letter to my mom and she freaked out and made me freak out I guess i will find out tommorrow

    Thanks again

since it says a donation was "made in Nala's memory" i would think it's just a monetary donation. i'm sorry for your loss though.

I would definitely think it was a monetary donation. A friend of mine had a dog that had cancer and passed away recently (it was a special type of cancer I can't even think of) and her vet did that EXACT same thing.

I think it was/is verrrrrrrrrrrrry kind of him/her.

  9. Hi Renee, I'm glad you're doing a little better! :D That's a donation in her memory, and very nice of him to do so. If it were anything else the letter would have stated that. It would be a nice gesture on your part, if when you are feeling better, to send him a Thank you note. Just a suggestion!

So you are are doing better then? if ever you feel like talking about some of your memories of her with us, we would love to read them! :D

    Take care! Susan

Thanks for all the replies I'm not going to call because i'm sure it was money my mother freaked out which made me think the same thing that was GREAT of my vet to do that and I think i will do the same. I really didnt know there was such a collage out there. My son 12 right now wants to be a vet when he grows up hopefully that wont change

I did send him a thank you card right after nala had passed because he was great about it he didnt charge me for the tummy drain (even tho they did it and got 13lbs of fluid out) they didnt charge me for the blood work they had already did AND they bought back the left over meds that I had they were very companisionate (sp) and wonderful and i wish they could be my primary vet but they are specialist and about 45 mins from my house and not open on weekends only about 5 mins from my work but i dont think i can bring sebastain and jasmine or the cats to work all day lol

again thanks for all the replies

and thanks Susan she was the best dog i ever had it is still hard once in awhile cuz i still look for her and things like watering my flowers make me think of her cuz there is no one to attack the hose also when i'm vaccumming she would attack that also but I will always remember how wonderful she was and how much fun she brought to my family

ps someone pm'ed me or im'ed me and i said accept but it went away sorry if you want to do it again it's fine with me thanks

That vet sounds wonderful, Rene. It was so considerate of him to not charge you!

I still hear my dog's tags jingling sometimes when I go in the backyard. She died last July. I planted flowers for her a couple of weekends ago - and I am not a flower-planter. In fact, I was clueless at the store and had a girl helping me with the things I needed.

ok i really freaked out for nothing today in the mail i received a certificate to say where nala's ashe's were spread it was a very nice certificate of death and i can donate $20.00 and have her name engraved in the wall they have there.

the cert. reads. (sorry i'm gonna cry) i'm going to type it excatly like the cert. (they spelled her name wrong) and a few other words.

certification of "country Burial" this certificate will serve to notify its owner that the remains of "NOLA" were interred in a country setting together with the pets of many other loving and appreciative owners such as yourself who feel that their pets deserve more than the other alternatives now in pratice. "COUNTRY BURIAL", is a token expression of gratuide for the unselfish devotion and companionsiop yur pet gaveyou durning it's entire lifetime.

and they also sent a regastration card so i can donate $20.00 to have her name put on the wall they have there. (i hope they spell it right) and i'm also going to send a donation to the same place my vet did and ask them to let him know that i did. It was wonderful of him to do that and i would like to do it also so that they can help protect our animals from disease's

it just seems weird to me when i lost my cat i didnt get all of this stuff in the mail to remind me.

That is wonderful, Rene. It's so nice to have support at this time, when a lot of people may not understand the grieving process for a pet.

Thanks for all the comments on my memorial for my Hocus. I always start confusing names after I talk to her, though, and start calling Nala Hocus instead. :?
