Quiet Birdies

Hey everyone! I usually hang out in the cat forum, and occasionally the Fish Forum. But I've been thinking about getting a birdie (i don't like to say "bird" because that's what my grandmother always calls women with ugly hairdo's i don't know why, she loves birdies) lately.

But my b/f told me I wasn't allowed to get anything that would "squwak in the middle of the night and keep [him] up rattling in it's cage". I looked in the store and found a number of adorable birdies, such as Finches, and Parakeets, that were loveable and affordable (if i could afford it there are beautiful $150 canaries and a $500 Maine Senegal... ooh and this really cute little $300 guy!).

But before I go and get one, and find out that their 'tude in the pet store was merely an act to get out of there and find out that birdie is really loud crazy and suicidal, I was wondering what the quietest, friendliest birdie is? I'm basically looking for suggestions on what the best companion of the birds is.

    Opinions please!!

Hi finches are very quiet during the night the like to sleep in a nest and once it starts coming in dark they goto bed and that it no noise till the following morning even then its a very quiet chirp, The only draw back is they dont like being handled very much.

Any bird is quiet on a night if you cover the cage this keeps out light and the bird knows it sleep time.

Budgies(parakeets) are great birds they can be tamed and trained from a young age and are not very noisy only during breeding time.

There is alot of different breeds out there but the larger the bird the louder the noise.

do a search on th internet on the different breeds of bird and it will tell you about them and how much of a pet they make..

I've never found any of the birds I've kept to be noisy. I've had 3 cockatiels, a canary and now I have 2 budgies (Chick died a few weeks ago). Although my canary would sing every morning during the night he was quiet as were my other birds.
