Well, for those of u who dont know him, he's a 6 week old blind kitten. He has micropthalmia, which means his eyes are severely under developed to the point where he is blind.

It's been 3 days since i've gotten him and he's showing amazing resiliance and determination in all he does. i am finding myself feeling less and less 'sorry for him' and simply more and more amazed at what he can do. (especially when he can chase me easily across the floor in the living room, catching my toes each time)

He's fearless. He is willing to try anything and everything which makes it important to keep an eye on him.

He is religiously waking up now every morning at 4am for potty, play and food. this usually lasts an hour. so my sleep has been scattered.

If it wasnt for the fact he is blind, i would not have to get up with him. But since he is, he has to be treated like a baby until he's old enough to have everything down pact.

My husband and i take turns 'baby sitting' if we have to go out anywhere.

Our 4 year old cat, Lex, just today finally started warming up to him. He's gone from hissing and growling to trying to play with him.

This is the only truly sad part. Lex is trying... but he doesnt understand Raz can't SEE what he's doing, his playful posturing ect. All Raz see's in his world is this huge paw coming out of no where, or the thundering of paws coming at him, a thump on the head and passing away.

Raz shys away from Lex right now, but i am sure when he gets bigger (lex is a somewhat larger (not fat) then usual cat) that they will be able to play together better.... but until then it makes me kinda sad to see Lex trying to open up and play, and Raz seemingly just 'not caring'.

The only things which have me worried right now, is

    1) he still has discharge coming out of his right eye (the one that is opened alittle wider then the other). i fear he might have Entropia, thats where a cats eyelashes turn inward and brush against their cornea...

    2) he still has diarreah... it's not showing any sign of stopping... even getting worse. this is the 3rd day with it. If it doesnt clear up soon i will have to take him into the vet regardless.

so... i shall put those 2 worries to rest in time one way or another... let's hope that neither is anything serious.

(still no pictures .. good ones... will have some soon)

    YAAAAAA
That's so great what your doing for him. I'm sure your Lex will make a GREAT older furbaby to Raz. I love that name by the way, so cute, and i'm sure it's fitting!

I'm happy to hear that Raz is doing well. Poor Lex! He probably just can't understand why the new kitty is ignoring him.

    Keep us updated!

Is Raz getting treatment right now for the discharge and what is the cause of the diarrhea? I hope he doesn't get too dehydrated. I know Raz is in good hands! BTW,Lynnhaz is the queen of all knowledge on kitten diarrhea.

vene> currently he isn't getting any treatment, as i dont want to jump at every little thing that goes on with him. i really dont wanna be one of those 'over protective mothers', showing up in the emergency room everytime their kid has a sniffle kinda deal. ;)

After i cleaned away the intial discharge from his eye, i notice it isnt as bad as it was. i'm going to keep an eye on it however and if it increases i will deffinately have it looked at. i'm figuring tho with no regular sized eye in the socket some discharge must be expected?

i am currently trying to advertise for my craft (i'm an artist) and usually do artworks on comission. i slacked off on the jobs simply because i've not been well myself... but Raz is deffinately a good reason to get more modivated. It's just my husband which works right now. Vet bills are not cheap in canada.

There is no danger of him getting too dehydrated, tho it was an initial concern. i watch each time he goes to eat, making sure he remembers where is water is and gets enough to drink. :)

Update: on the Lex and Raz front. Last night/ this morning they have come to an understanding somehow. they actually play together, and i've seen Lex trying to groom him. (tho it's hard to get him to hold still) so long as Lex doesnt get overly carried away and excited things should be great! :)

i will keep u all updated. i plan on getting some pics developed tomorrow, and should get them scanned to share :)

i have not met Lynnhaz on here yet, but shall look out for her... the vet said when i called the diarreah might be caused from the hard food i have been making soft. i've reduced the water in it now so that it's just a light coating. hopefully this will help.

Can't wait to see their pics! Pumpkin and Rene get occassional discharge in their eyes as well. They usually clear up on their own.

Can you do Frank LLoyd Wright tree of life artwork (simplified versions)?
