Razberry's Vet Visit Today

It all started with the bus ride.

The carrier was ok with him until we got on the bus...the sound drove him crazy. he cried until we got there.
i tried playing with him- worked for a second half way through then he remembered where he was.

Once we got to the vets, he was an instant hit. the receptionist kept stealing him to love on him, it was so funny.

Turns out he weighs 0.7 (kilos?) not even a pound yet. he turns 8 weeks old tomorrow.

They dont have any blind cats at the vet i went too, and the vet said he had never seen one so young before.-- and naturally like that.

But Raz had his sockets checked and the vet confirmed Raz does see some light in one 'eye'. he said we should keep a close eye on his 'eyes' and consider having them stitched shut. again due to possible infections. ( :( ) But he said to just keep his 'eyes' clean to help prevent infections and we would asess things later on when he got older and near time for neutering.

He said most cats that are blind like that get disorented by the light they can see and develop problems and things, but he was openly amazed with how well Raz was adjusted and behaving.

Apparently Razberry is an extreemly tollerant and pleasant kitten, especially for being blind. he said blind cats dont usually like being held, and examined.

Turns out Raz has a touch of a herpies virus which is causing some eye discharge and some snotties. he said in time it would clear up, and the vacinations would help with it. But it prolly could take a year. So i've decided to follow through with at least another booster. the rabies one wont be needed.

Other then that, he was given a clean bill of health- which also surprised the vet. he said he was very impressed with him.

Raz even took the needle better then i did. he didnt even move while i was there shuddering. (i hate needles and yet i have 4 tattoos go figure lol)

The bad part about the exam tho, was the vet saying we had to watch him closely... since we dont really know WHY his eyes never developed, it COULD be some sort of disease or something that may spread to his brain. But that's just trying to cover all bases and to be prepared. But he has a strong heart and good circulation.

Halfway on the way home, he slept ;)

Back again in a month for boosters. :)

I'm glad to hear that things went well at the vet.
Hopefully, there is no disease involved in his lack of eye developement.

That's good news. Mine get freaked out on the bus, too.

Tigger was a herpesvirus cat, and that's also how Angus lost his eye. They say that Lysine helps - I got some from the vet and sprinkled a tsp on his food each day - it's an amino acid that supposedly helps them along with the virus, and would certainly be the (a) cause of weepy eye gunk. If you -do- have to do the stitching don't fret too much - it's pretty awful at first but they certainly relearn everything quickly, and where Raz is already using his other senses to compensate he'll be that much further ahead.
